The Mad Robot Mega Challenge II

Welcome one and all to the second Mad Robot Mega Challenge!

@Mad Robot (Maddest of them all) is calling for talented yaks to come forward and take part in his 4 month challenge!

The Challenge:

*Will consist of three rounds, each lasting four weeks.
*at the end of each round, there will be a one week voting period.

Round 1: Theme - “Brand New”

Round 2: Theme - “In it’s Prime”

Round 3: Theme - “Worn out”

Your 3 entries must be all part of a set or story, so the stages in the life of a model, gang, army, warband, themed table etc. and be linked to one of the specialist games on this site. But that’s it, no other restrictions, go wild!

@Mad Robot is offering the following very generous and Mad prizes;

Win 1 round = $15+free shipping
Win 2 rounds = $15+$15+$20 = $50+free shipping
Win 3 rounds = $15+$15+$15+$55 = $100+free shipping

Should you be Mad enough to win all three rounds you will also take the Trolls crown and become the MRMC Champion!!! A prize indeed.

The Challenge dates are as follows;

Round 1 starts 1st September 2020 and finishes 27th September 2020 - 4 weeks

Round 1 Voting starts 28th September 2020 and finishes 4th October 2020 - 1 week

Round 2 starts 4th October 2020 and finishes 1st November 2020 - 4 weeks

Round 2 Voting starts 2nd November 2020 and finishes 8th of November 2020 - 1 week

Round 3 starts 8th November 2020 and finishes 6th December 2020 - 4 weeks

Round 3 Voting starts 7th December and finishes Sunday 13th December 2020 - 1 week.

If a Yak does want to enter in any of the rounds, they must present, at the very least, a fully assembled figure in the time given, and produce a clearly labelled image before the closing date for that round. E.g. Round 1 Entry - New Clone death machine, and post it on this thread.

Good Luck Yaks!
Madness Awaits!

(any and all queries will be discussed and agreed upon by the Yaktribe Enforcers and @Mad Robot . All decisions made will be absolute and final)

Voting - In the event of a draw, the Enforcers and @Mad Robot will pick the winner from the drawing Yakkers. 1 Round 1 Winner.

Oh, I’ve got an idea.... sad thing is I haven’t painted a thing in ages.... since Covid started? Do we have to declare beforehand?

Nope - it’s a bit more lax than a normal comp, it can be a half finished project etc that you finish. That said you need to show what work you’ve done during the round dates and meet the theme so the voting Yakkers can decide whether you’re worthy!

For those who may not be able to enter all three rounds, just make sure your entry matches the theme for that round. So, if you can only do round 1, make sure your entry looks brand new, right off the production line. If it's a figure, make the uniform clean and neat, the weapons polished. Hope that helps to clarify the differences between the rounds.

Necromunda noble.

Stage 1. A novice spyrer on his first hunt.

Stage 2. Mr fancy pants all looking suave in his noble raiment (had to use a fancy word for a fancy man).

Alternative stage 2. Spyrer patriarch.

Stage 3. Lots of bionics. Old sickly etc only kept alive due to tech (tech so pricey that even a N18+ gang could only dream of).

Only one model a month should be within my capabilities. Although I might make a couple. Man and wife going through life together. From the days of murdering juve's in the underhive. To making big shot business decisions together. Before they end up as a pair of cyber freak's who can't stand the sight of each other.

You get it!

@Scavvierising no problem with one model a month, but some MAD Yakker might build a whole town! think big, go MAD!!
Considering I've still got to prime some of my current yak comp entry with a deadline in 2:1/2 hours. While currently distracting myself by looking through these forums.
I think I know my limit.

Exciting.. So what specialist games count? just finished a Lot of Mordhiem.. knee deep in Inquisitor at the minute. (No way I can afford 3 54mm models lol, tho Eisenhorn Would be a good theme..). Hmmm

So my idea is an evolving piece of scenery. It’ll start as small scatter, then expand over the challenges. I think I can pull it off with what I have in my bits boxes.

my grandiose plan is to include gangers to work said scenery, but that involves spending some cash as i have no minis laying around to use. So we’ll see how that works out.

I know we didn’t have to declare, but it makes it more real and I’m hoping that will pull me out of my hobby funk.

Does it have to be 3 different models? Could I make, for example, a piece of scenery, enter it, then use the same piece but add bits to enter it again?

And then thrash it with a hammer for the third round? :D

I certainly like the sound of this - personally feel I'm too far along with something that would have made a fun series of entries (mostly painting to be done for 2 out of the 3 rounds, only some minor finishing touches of sculpting left), but I can build some similar accompanying models from scratch more specifically for this.

For the similarly themed yak9 comp, I made three stages of a dude as he became more covered in mushrooms and his body warped. I’m actually tempted to do something similar for this, but stages of devolution maybe more towards chaos spawn than meaty mushroom...

...not saying I’m in, just that I’m definitely thinking about it :)

Also just putting a probe out there at the moment, but the opening post states "linked to one of the specialist games on this site". Now, last time I entered a Frostgrave wizard, but it could be argued that it's close enough to Mordheim to be allowed. And I doubt anyone would argue if I entered some Warhammer fantasy Vampires it would be fine, as even though it isn't "specialist" it's still on the site. What I am wondering is about Gaslands? I have a couple of Ford Mustang GT's I could do something with, but the game isn't officially on this site, and isn't technically a specialist game I guess. Also, I don't think Mad Robot does 20mm bits on his site, and this is a Mad Robot Challenge... I'm not saying I'd do it, but is it an option?
