The Sons of Ariadne are a long-established Van Saar gang whose history is entwined with the forgotten depths of Hive Primus. They believe Necromunda is a labyrinth built atop countless older labyrinths: abandoned manufactorums, collapsed settlements, forgotten data networks, and technological systems whose creators died thousands of years ago.
The gang takes its name from Ariadne, an ancient Van Saar Archeotek whose true identity has been lost. According to their traditions, Ariadne discovered a method of tracing forgotten technologies back toward their origins. She called this path the Thread.
To the Sons, the Thread is part philosophy, part methodology, and perhaps something more. Every damaged machine, unexplained power signal, corrupted data fragment, and sealed passage may be another piece of it. The gang regularly ventures into forgotten regions of the hive to recover lost technology, map ancient systems, and search for clues to whatever Ariadne first discovered.
They mark explored territory with thin geometric lines scratched or painted onto walls, creating a secret language only the Sons fully understand. Similar markings appear on their weapons and equipment, recording repairs, discoveries, previous owners, and important expeditions.
The Sons are immediately recognizable in battle. They wear black armor, their masks illuminated by glowing green lenses. Across each fighter's chest is a sharp red widow-mark, a symbol representing both Ariadne's Thread and the predator waiting patiently at the center of its web.
The gang is currently led by the veteran Arcelos, who has served with the Sons for many years. Under his leadership, they avoid pointless conflict whenever possible. Violence is a tool. Battles are fought to secure territory, recover technology, protect the gang, or remove something standing between them and the next piece of the Thread.
The Sons believe that somewhere beneath Necromunda lies the Center, the place toward which Ariadne's discoveries were ultimately leading.
An old saying guides them whenever they descend into the darkness: "Every maze was built around something."
The Sons of Ariadne intend to find it.
