Quiet in here...
I thought I'd drop in to say something positive.
I was very down on N17 and N18 back then. Shoddy quality checking and constant churn did me no favours. But the group of guys I game with in Sydney got into Necro and all have a fairly relaxed attidude too. The New Big Book seems solid and fairly comprehensive. The breadth of material seems like a boon vs bane now, maybe thats my 'gotta collect em all attitude' mellowing with age

. Finally bought that and the two House of Books and Ruin. Covers my favorite gangs and I hit the digital 'treasure trove' to read up on the others.
I find an active commish/ arbiter is a huge boon and a generous spirit (re cover etc) to ones opponents. We also use a 'Rule of 2' broadly to limit the best options and build a more diverse gang work wonders in the narrative style that the rules enable but dont do much to enforce. Avoiding spam goes a long way.
Much as i loved the old days of ORB and NCE, reality has kicked me in the behind and shown me that with all of us not getting any younger, having careers, partners, kids, etc we dont have time for the good old days of yore, with seemingly limitless weekends to grind out never ending campaigns. The short sharp rinse and repeat campaigns of the newer system, with a hefty splash of Arbiter and Player story telling, really does suit the life style and engagement limitations we have these days.
Yaktribe makes a big difference in tracking a league and making it 'real' even if you arent seeing the other games played etc due to time and distance. So big love there

Also OPR is awesome. Simple and less chrome, but flavourful and engaging with alternating activations, and less than 6kgs worth of books. Mostly using for Fantasy and Grim Dark in place of AOS and 40k. But there is a "Hive Gangs" expansion that has some promise.
Its a nice time to be collecting (slowly) some cool new models and giving some new life to some old classics.
