Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

Get the cool minis, use Gaslands rules! I actually saw a post on the Gaslands Facebook group recently with pictures of just that. :giggle: Looked great.

I actually fancied Balin’s Tomb as a way of introducing others to the hobby. You know, people who like LoTR and/or board games, but not miniature gaming. Turns out like most of these one off board games GW do it’s a bit shit so no great loss.

If we wanted the one-off experience, we'd generally just play a board game.
A lot of more modern games have numerous moving parts to make them more replayable; Settlers of Catan is one of the earliest examples of this, but you get different characters, board layouts, random events, end game conditions etc. That make board games these days much more than a one-and-done affair.

Terraforming Mars, as an example, is a game with so many corporations, so many cards and so many ways of scoring points that makes it almost infinitely replayable.

I like Quest, Space Hulk, BSF, even bommerz over da sulphur river. Adeptus Titanicus is by most accounts very good, and Aeronautica Imperialis is also a good looking game which seems to play well. When they put the effort in, they can make good games.

Where they seem to fall down is games that seem to only exist to show off new models. Like speed freaks. I feel quite bad for the rules writers there - probably not given enough time to do a good job, and knowing that your rules are not even going to be read by many (most?) buyers, who just want the models.

Combat Arena wasn't too bad, but you should never play it with less than four players. It also has the too short deck problem; shuffling maybe 10-15 cards is a lot harder than shuffling 40+

The rest of the one-off GW games never really appealed to me or my gaming friends.
I quite fancied getting Lost Patrol when it was rereleased a few years back but missed out on getting it. Turns out they messed it up by fiddling with the rules to justify shoving a sprue of Genestealers in there. Thus it became legend as the game you can’t win as a marine player.

The original used blip tokens (lurkers) and was actually was playable, like Jake Thornton intended.

Oh come on, I'm a long time denzien of the sump and yet sumping about things we know nothing about is a bit far fetched even for me :ROFLMAO:

I mean, you're almost certainly 100% correct. But still, better to have something worthy of sumping before sumping IMO.

We know nothing about it? We knew Outlander campaign was another 7-cycle imbalanced campaign. We know that all gangs so far have very limited poses/sprues. You think at this point, I'll leave open the possibility that we will see a lot of poses? Something other than a 7-cycle (3-1-3) campaign? All campaigns so far are so similar that I can summarize them in tabular form :p

Maybe I'm mistaken, but everything so far follows the same blue-print which can be repeated forever. Of course the vehicle rules will be new, but it will be a positive surprise if they are both functional and balanced!
