Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

Colourforge is £12 from my local hobby shop so I’ve started using that, if you’ve got Amazon prime you can usually get Liquatex or Army Painter for a similar price, the P&P kills it otherwise.

But unfortunately big scenery projects seem a lot more expensive to paint than the days of yore.

Yep, same at mine and the ones I’ve used have been great so far!!

I’m trying to remember what Halfords used to be - think it was £7.99 for 300ml and £9.99 for 500ml.

Its now £11.99 for 500ml!
ColourForge is £12 for 500ml but as you and Tiny suggest - comes in a great range of (GW compatible) colours.

Not sure about AP - their sprays are a mixed bag and I think my FLGS purged them.

They now also stock (alongside ColourForge) AK Interactive sprays which are 400ml and cost £10.80 at store price, £11.99 RRP. Also a range of colours and finishes. Not tried them though.

I just use the stuff from Poundland.
Mine don’t have any!! 😩

Best I can find is some spray for polishing black plastic on cars. Which of course is useless for us.

Yeah I’ve never been able to find the cheap spray paint of legend in local pound shops.

Army painter are ok these days you just need to keep an eye on the nozzles blocking. And avoid any spray varnish like the plague.

100% this. The nozzles do block but I just keep some spares off old cans.

The varnish is shite but then all spray varnish sucks so I just use airbrush or brush on varnish.

Has anyone ever tried the TTCombat stuff??

It’s 400ml £8.50 or £7.65 from Element Games.

Ultimately though I tend to just get paint that’s in stock near me rather than order online unless its significant discount.

I actually have a small bag of spare nozzles!! 🤣

Funny how we all think the same thing isn’t it.

You apparently get a spare one with the AK stuff to use; a wide and fine one.

As we’re on to sprays and nozzles - there’s two types, ones that plug into the can and others that sit on a tube coming out of the can.

The latter ones can break off if you’re unlucky removing a tight cap or you drop it - then you’re screwed. I’ve had that happen twice over the years and in both cases I’ve realigned the loose nozzle and somehow managed to save the can. Bloody annoying though.

Never happened with a plug-in nozzle.

I've used TTCombat sprays for the last couple of months, their black is really good with great coverage, really thin, and is solidly matte. Sprue grey is basically the same colour as unpainted sprue, and Templar armour is a good base dark-metal which I've used to basecoat terrain.

I think they're doing a rework of their sprays though as most aren't in stock on their webstore, though they are currently only £5 a can for the colours that are still available.

I used the cheapest non-brand primer from the hardware store for a while. It did an ok job, but I've switched back to dedicated miniature primer, either from gw or army painter. They just work better for detailed miniatures, generally. For terrain, I'm fine with the cheap stuff. But never tried the automobile cans, or what else people have suggested, might be worth a go. I do have a suspicion that they'll be as expensive as gw here in good old Denmark...

Just spend what felt like an eternity trying to paint eyes in on the non-metal faced Arms Master. The mask and collar are so closely placed that I’ve given up and just put it into shadow.

Might look at it another day but I’m just fed up trying now.

Had a look at GWs official job and it doesn’t look like they could either!

I know loads of people gave up on eyes years ago but I still like to do them if I can.
