Necromunda The Sump: General hobby venting thread (Beware: old men shouting at clouds)

Well that seems like a very specific example of a very illogical person. That sucks that you have had to deal with it. Could you tell them you are a master sculptor and made it out of Green Stuff that you bought from that very store?

One thing that could also happen is the Necromunda support will continue but slow to a Blood Bowl level of crawl in 2019 as the Specialist Games team will need some time to concentrate on Titanicus.

It’s probably worth pointing out that the original game was only really properly supported from November 1995 until around June 1996.

In June 96 White Dwarf (or thereabouts) GW put out a statement about how their smaller games would each have a season in which it would have shelfspace and attention etc, and that Necromunda’s season was coming to an end and BloodBowls was restarting.

And that was more or less the last we saw of Necromunda in its original release, at least in terms of mainstream GW products (i.e. not the fanzines and citadel journel).

So, by comparison, N17 is being pretty well supported so far.

Not that I think it won’t peter out after GW5, or that I don’t think it should continue after GW5, but just to add some context with the golden years of Necro.

Well, actually, I wouldn't mind N17 lifecycle to be brief. I want them to give us all they have in store as fast as possible and let the game die a quick death so that we can resurrect it in glorious N17CE format. What I don't want is for them to keep the licence barely alive with one book and one box gang per year.

I asked why, and he said "We don't want people to bring in things that aren't available on the shelf to all the players. It gives an unfair advantage". So I pointed at my old metal Imperial Stormtrooper squad on the table and asked why those weren't a problem. He just kind of glared at me and had one of the employees 'cleaning up' near the area I was playing and looking over the whole time, so we left.

You mean it is gonna slow to a crawl?
'cause if they still have a lot of stuff in store and keep it coming at this pace, I won't complain either (well, not about that anyway)

These days, a lot of GW products aren't available 'off the shelf' but only on direct order. Unless they're all banned too, it makes no sense to ban FW for this reason. Just because it's not 'off the shelf', anyone can order it (if they have the money - but again that applies to non-FW products too).

Yes, there's no sense in it at all. Essentially, a bunch of 40k players convinced the Shop Owner years ago to put a permanent ban on it and it's stuck around since then. That, or the FLGS owner is really serious about people only using things on his table that he sold to them. It may be more the latter, and he was singling me out because I was home on leave and just went there to game with a friend and he'd never seen me before.

The point is, however, that if Necromunda goes straight to Forge World exclusive- then it'll take a hit. I'd say the remedy for this is that FW needs to be able to ship to stores just as GW main does.

No Forgeworld to me stems from a time long ago when it really was OP.

Back in the day there were no flyers, heavy or super heavy tanks or really large models generally available.

Hell my local gaming scene didn’t allow special characters to be used.

Could you imagine the outcry nowadays if you didn’t let Robert Guilleman on the board, let alone not allowing super heavy tanks.

I mean they just announced an imperial knight codex and with it have removed any desire I had of picking 40k back up.

Yeah. It's a silly rule to enforce now. But the issue is that even if every FLGS owner was 100% okay with it, it's still going to take a hit. The best thing about 'Warhammer nights' is that you can see the specialist games and people take an interest in them and get stuff off the shelf.

Knights aren't that good. If you bring them without other support you'll have a bad time. I've dropped a knight with a Primaris force, if that tells you anything.

2) Just because you can play with something doesn't mean you have to. There's no real arms race in 40K or any game unless your only interest is winning. You can have a fun game of 40K at under 1000pts very easily.

'You don't have to play with [small part of game]' has never been a strong argument. I don't get to police what my opponents and my friends get to use. I haven't played 40k for over a decade now, but if I were to do so I'd have to either deal with a bunch of bullshit I don't want, or provide my opponents with a list of demands before they leave the house. Neither is something that tempts me. I prefer the more sensible and workable advice 'that's the game, participate or don't'. There's no feasible way to participate in only the parts of the game one likes.

I also play Pokemon from time to time. I don't care for using legendaries or unevolved pokemon, so I don't. Other people can, and I face them, and that's fine. Mega evolutions bugged me a little, but I got used to them; I wouldn't mind if they were gone, but they're alright. But now Z-moves, I don't like at all. I'll continue to play for the moment, but it's the kind of thing that could shift me to the other side of the 'play it or don't' fence. I don't have to use them, and I don't, but I can't prevent them (IMO) negatively affecting the games I play.

Sorry but this really gave me a good chuckle.

1) Imperial Knights have been around in 40K for 3 years now, it's not some brand new thing that's going to ruin your day. It's just a big robot.

I haven't played 40k in close to 20 years so it's all relatively new and over sized to me.

Bloodthirsters and large monsters used to fit on 40mm square base the last time I played fantasy and the largest thing in 40k was a landraider which that bloodthirster stood over the top of just to put it in a bit of perspective for you.

Looking at flyers, Lords of War, Super Heavy tanks and Imperial Knights as being readily available doesn't make me want to pick 40k back up (though I am eyeing off a second hand Primus Marine force for $250).

And this whole thing is why I like having a relaxed club to play at that isn't tied to a shop.

I fee for those that have to put up with this sort of thing for a bit of pewpew and dakkadakka. I don't want playing with my toy soldiers to become serious business.

I agree. At my club, people play whatever they feel like.

We have “professionally” painted armies versus plastic ones. Rules as written, house rules, 40K, 30K. RPG (both Rockets and Roleplay) Wouldn’t that be a great name for a club ??? and everybody plays whatever they want, with whatever they want.
