Hey all, I want to document my ongoing process of THE TOWER (I do need a better name).

This was built in 1996 at Gorilla Bob's in Spokane, WA. I was 11 years old when I first set my eyes upon it. It was glorious. It has now sat in storage for about 10 years at Merlyn's (also in Spokane), and last summer, I bought it from the owner, with the intent to bring it back to glory. I've started work on it. Initially, it consisted of just getting things back together: Reattaching parts with tacky glue and toothpicks (most of the structure is made from styrofoam).

I took Necromunda terrain pieces from the 90's and photoshopped them into full sheets I could then print out and apply. I am also using a combination of black poster paint and mod podge to paint back over places the styrofoam is showing through the paint.

That is a seriously big build!

Awesome that you’ve managed to acquire and rescue a bit of your local Necromunda history!! It’s nice to think some of the older projects still live on in some form.

That type of expanded polystyrene is notorious for chipping, there’s not really much you can do about it as that’s is how it’s designed! If it can dent or crumble it saves the thing it’s holding from damage.
Of course that makes it a little awkward for terrain that gets constantly fussed over.

What you’re doing there with the printed sections might be one of the better (if time expensive) methods of stopping edges chipping off - especially with a few L-folded sections of hazard strips on the edges to stiffen them up.

Looks like you’ve got quite a bit of extra work there.

There’s a few platforms on there that look like they could have removable walkways connecting them to the central sections - might be worth considering for extra playability. There also looks like there were some things on the base that have been snapped off over years - you could do similar with those, if they were freestanding towers.

This is somewhat akin to a build I've been pondering for some time, though a bit bigger. I've wanted to do a large centerpiece terrain, with huge pipes representing some of the "plumbing" going between domes. Cool piece!

I’m now just imagining a giant vertical Necromunda “Snakes and Ladders” board!

But more “Sump Pipes and Ladders”.

Great job taking the initiative to rescue a fantastic old terrain piece! Looking forward to seeing your renovations to it!

Arx is latin for citadel and it looks industrial so maybe "Arx Industriae"?
