TUTORIAL: Painting/Modelling

Pinned since I think it will be a good reference for the community. nooker

Thought I'd start a thread where people can put up any interesting articles about how to do painting effects or modelling techniques. I regularly sift through the internet for interesting painting tutorials so have a few I can stick up. Hopefully people might find something of interest here! I take no credit for these tutorials, I just found em. (The photo taking and editing link is courtesy of djmothra)

I've done a tutorial for painting burned/charred flesh that you may find useful! When it comes to painting mutants, or maybe even if you want to put some damage on your gangers after they've been burned up by a flamer 7 games running! Really easy technique that gives a pretty good effect!

Can anyone recommend a good paint-on primer? Preferably with low fumes. I have things ready to prime, and the weather has decided to only be nice while I’m at work.

Until recently I used the Vallejo stuff, which is fine, but a little prone to rubbing off while handling during the painting process.

For my current project, however, I'm using Badger Stynylrez which I already like better as it's definitely tougher. I've only tried airbrushing but I see no reason why it wouldn't brush on just fine. Two things to be aware of, though: a) if, like me, you prime in grey, they've chosen a shade that is exactly the same as GW plastic, so it can be tricky to see if you've missed a spot, and b) they only sell them in bottles 60ml and up, so you can't just buy a smaller bottle to see if you like it.

I often use vallejo german panzer grey primer and sometimes the grey primer. I also had some nice results with Pacific88 primers but I reckon getting a hold of those outside of Russia is going to be problematic ;)
Here's a model kit channel that only uses brushes to paint scale model kits. Here he uses AK Interactive surface primer with no issues.
