First off this is not a plan of mine to uses this situation.

The Hands full rule of the mounted condition reduces your available weapon slots by one and prohibits non Lance unwieldy weapons. Also you can only use one weapon in Melee.

Clearly someone in the GW necromunda design team thought you need a hand to control a moving bike.

Aside from the Unwieldy prohibition there are no restrictions on Shootings attacks so you could use both weapon slots for side arms and use twin guns blazing.

As a real world biker the idea of speeding along a dust storm track, letting go of the handlebar and pulling two pistols and blazing away is insane.
The recoil alone will knock you and your bike down, assuming you get a pair of proper hand cannons like bolt pistols or the Goliath stubgun.
(You lose loads of stability even standing still hands free on bike key alone the recoil of a decent sized pistol.)

Anyone else think this situation is too bonkers for necromunda?

Is it too bonkers for Mad Max? Too bonkers for The Warriors? Too bonkers for Rollerball? Too bonkers for Judge Dredd? Too bonkers for other dystopian SF action movies? If not, then it isn’t too bonkers for Necromunda. If yes then maybe it is.

Hard SF realism has never been the setting’s bag.

I mean. Look at the wingspan of that blue cherub. There’s no way that could get Airborn. 😉

YEEEHAA!!

I rest my case, your honour.

For a little extra movement, and much worse defense, bikes and mounts don't have a lot going for them. They should have gotten an extra toughness. They did not. Further restrictions are just cruel. Imagine 40K bikes have an anti-grav thingie to keep them upright, until hit.

BTW, bikes are for speed; like cop chases. Not for fighting. You don't see a lot of motorbike mounted soldiers. Admittedly, because putting a bunch of 19 year-old soldiers on motorcycles would be madness.

Bikes (just the wastland version not the fancy Clan versions like cutters, Grav board etc) do allow your fighters to participate in Rolling Roads scenarios ,if you play them, cheaply for the credits. Just cramming your gang into one big vehicle may not be the best bet. A few bikes spread the targets around.
I don't see how they get much worse defence. Provided you have alright Initiative they give you resilience to pinning ( Initiative is the most common XP roll for Gangers after all) YOu may be a bigger target but so is a Stimmer.

I'm not saying they are an absolute requirement and useful in all situations but they have a place in the right situation, like Rolling Roads. Or blasting open a gate with a Shotgun like The Terminator.

Madness? On Necromunda? NEVER!!!

Remember that the Wasters' Dirtbike explicitly includes all sorts of things including "In the vast wastes of Necromunda there is a dizzying array of personal transport options used
by gangers, ranging from the humble dirtbike to choppers and even exotic cyber-animals! These are all represented by the rules for a Waster’s dirtbike."

So yeah, the horse really IS a Wasters' Dirtbike (Common, 50 credits).

All true. I don't think Rolling Road accomplishes what it intends, so didn't consider it. But, yes, bikes be better for it. It's the fall down, go BOOM! that makes bikes less defensive when shot.

I want to like them. I wouldn't want to see them further restricted.

Thoughtful post!

I'm a real world biker. Fall down, go BOOM! pretty much sums it up.

At least the hit you take when you do fall down is based on the speed you were going rather than the flat tip speed of a vehicle collision.

Having had to pick my bike up after going over the initiative test makes perfect sense.

You could always confirm with your Arbiter on adding some of the vehicle upgrades/Wargear to your necromunda bikes as it state is in the sidebar on the bikes in Outlands. The option to add markers that counts as smoke aids in defence.
Or Caltrops would be very in theme of Ash wastes hijinks.

Having lived this one as a young Ranger (many years ago), I agree 100%.
