Is there an update or option yet to add Malstrain or Spyrer gangs yet without having to create every option separately as a custom item?

Not yet, no. Nor is there an estimate of when there might be such. A few folks (myself included) have created template Spyrer gangs, say, or Malstrain gangs, to copy and then fiddle about with to get the desired composition, if you browse the Custom Gangs. That should be able to get you by.

The site is run by a single person, who has been busy with RL stuff for awhile. The last update they announced was Ash Wastes, and they’ve been scarce since. I’d look into the custom tools.
