Using Pets in skirmish games

It doesn’t explicitly say in the new Gang War 3 book but I’m assuming the new brutes, pets, servo skulls etc can be used as normal in skirmish games? You would just pay the credits cost as normal, it would be a shame if they only could be purchased in campaign games

Everything in the Trading post is available in Skirmish games. Hangers-on are available in skirmish games.

I don't really see GW need any development for skirmish games (other than minior configurations on scenarios). Isn't it enough for the players to just agree on what to include?

Player 1: "Wanna play a skirmish game, 1500 points?"
Player 2: "Sure. Should we include pets/brutes?"
Player 3: "Allright. Let's play!"

What else is there?

Yeah skirmish mode is just like sandbox mode, just do what you want. I think most of the stuff in the forgeworld weapon packs are aimed at skirmish mode, as you will never see a lot of it in campaign

Personally i'd like to see a set of skirmishes rules in the next gang war. It's nothing hard to be honest you could do a lot worse than the London GT rules. Yes you can just agree it in advance but a set pick up and play skirmish format would be useful

hey,

little question here? not really about "can you use pets in Skirmish" but more :
Do pets count in the gang size (in Skirmish or Campagne) ?
Would presume no even if the have a fighter card but could be wrong.

The Beasts are purchased as wargear but behave like fighters. However, there are a few exceptions, one of them being that they don't count towards the number of fighter you can select for a given battle (if you take a fighter with beasts, you can also take the beasts). It's not spelled out but they should not be shuffled with the other fighters when selecting a crew at random or selecting sentries.

RAW, I think they do count as fighters as far as bottle tests are concerned though (both towards the number of total fighters and the number of OoA/seriously injured fighters).

I do agree with you Thorgor :

it's writed that it used all normal rules of a fighter so it does count for the bottle test.

we were arguing with Der_vador about this matters, he thought that it wasn't count as a fighter for the bottle tests.

by the way : ecxept for bottle tests, does the total number of fighter is used for other things ?

Cheers :D

From the top of my head, I don't think the total number of fighters is used for anything else.
The number of out of action fighters, on the other hand, is used during the post-battle sequence to determine whether a fighter is captured or not. The rules for Exotic Beasts state that they can be captured, so I assume they also count for the test.

The rules don't clarify one way or another how it works for bottle tests. You could assume that it means the default rules apply, but then why do the rules for beasts explicitely state they follow the normal rules for being captured?
Also, how much of this should apply to the GSC familiar? Gut feeling is that it can't be captured, but should it count towards bottle tests?

Other corner case with Beasts: can they be selected at random to be the focus of a Chaos ritual? If so, can they become a Spawn? RAW, I think they can, but it doesn't make much sense fluffwise.

It'd serve 'em right to get turned into a spawn; filthy, creepy devil-babies. Caryatid is the only pet Cults get so far. :(

about the familiar, it said :
The Adept is accompanied by a familiar – a psychic manifestation of their will.

and also unlike beasts :
Familiars never suffer serious injuries and cannot gain Experience.

So does it mean that it doens't count for bottle test ? does it count for friendly fighter cool check if it gets OOA ?

question for FAQ I guess :D

Good catch there!

The familiar is just so puny, I don't think Genestealer Cults would need that. So instead of having one of the powerful options, you have one or two weak "fighters" who will cause the gang to take bottle tests. The other real pets are actually useful in close combat. The familiar is just to annoy, Engage or shield.
