Vampire Wars: The Empire vs The Undead

I didn't even notice that they were the BB ones until I read the reference to plastic. They look good, though I guess they must be a bit larger than the old metal ones, since I seem to remember those being about twice as many per base.

Yeah they're a little larger but still a head shorter than a Night Goblin so work well enough. I could have fitted more per base but I fluffed out the bases with bits to get more bases out of a set.

Yes, I assumed it was partly an economy choice. The bases look full enough as is, so I think it works.

I really like the less cluttered look too, granted it's less a 'horde of snotlings' but it allows visible goofy stuff each indiviual is up to rather than blurring into a small green mass.

the lovely paint job helps a lot of course

Since I see a lot of folks talking about it I did a little comparison shot of some skeletons.

Left to right Oathmark - GW - Wargames Atlantic body with GW arms and head.

The WGA ones really don’t fit in with the others without a head swap at the very least. The oathmark ones are a little skinnier than GW and the weapons are smaller, but fit ok in a unit IMO.

They all look excellent - luckily GW will sell you a big box of spare skulls to solve any problems!!

Plus as people are different sizes I think a mix of all three would make units look great! (Which I imagine is what you’ve done)

I'm not so keen on the Oathmark skellies, but I don't need any more of them anyway. I'll be tempted to pick up some revenants though.
Yeah I’m tempted with some revenents to use as grave guard. That said the new GW start collecting box also has grave guard and a cool wight king. 🤔

Got a few heroquest orcs to mix in with them so I’ll see how I get on with them. Tried a couple on bases and seems just a slight angle let’s them fit fine with minimal crabbing.

Coming soon to a green skin horde near you.

... although now I try to rank them up on bases, I realise I may have my work cut out. :(
Monopooooooooooose!!!

Ah Battlemasters.

Here you may find hex based are your friend as it allows you to offset them. Or use a square with horizontal slot and have some with slot facing from and some back to create staggering.
Or...
Use sabot style movement trays with gaps between the holes for the bases. Etc.

If it’s the same plastic as HeroQuest then it’s very hard compared to what we’re used to now. It’s both weirdly solid enough to be bashed about, dropped and abused without breaking - just don’t squeeze them or they’ll snap leaving a razor sharp edge.

Which of course makes them ideal for children to use.

Whats a sensible unit size for Orc Boyz and / or savage orcs in 8th Ed? Also what weapon combos work best for them? Any different in 6th Ed?
If you are talking competative, you dont take orcs, you take savage orcs or night goblins.

Savage orcs want to be in a horde of 40 with extra hand weapon (what you want in 6th as well), with a savage orc shaman with shrunken head in (to improve their ward save from paint).

Orcs, you want to have extra hand weapon too for 8th... not sure if other options are better in 6th tbh. Similar use, 40 in horde. an alt load out could be shield in a bus of 30... no idea how useful that would be, but could be decent.

you are allowed one unit in your army to be upgraded to big uns. Use this. ideally on the savage orc horde, but basically on whatever your best killing unit is to make it that much killier.
