N18 Versatile 1" and Coup de Grace

Hi all,

Sorry if the question was already answred.

If I have versatile 2" on my weapon, and place my ganger 1" away from the defender. The defender don't have reaction attack and if I seriously injured it, I can coup de grace becouse I am at 1".
Am I correct ?

Versatile doesn't come into it, and it has to be within 1" rather than 'at 1"', but yeah if you're WITHIN 1" of a Seriously Injured enemy Fighter and not engaged with any other enemy fighters and they're in your vision arc you can Coup de Grace (Simple). Also if you Charge (Double) an already SI enemy and end your move within 1" of them and not engaged by any other fighters you can do a free CdG instead of a free Fight (Basic), whether you've got Versatile or not.

If you fight, the enemy can react. It's part of the core fight mechanics. However, the enemy needs equal or longer range to react. If charge, within 1" of SI, then you can CdG. But I think there are additional limitations like not being engaged with other enemeies, as they can protect their injured friend from CdG.

-Not if they don't have Versatile of their own to reach to react with. EDIT: Nope, Scopthalmus is correct in the below post, you can't be within 1" of someone still on their feet and able to fight back.

Theoretically, this is correct. But be aware that you can't legally be positioned within 1" but not in base contact with an enemy (see 1" rule).

UNLESS that enemy fighter is prone and Seriously injured N23 1" Rule p108. It looks like the OP is gonna have to choose between being AT 1" for the no-reaction Versatile attacks and being WITHIN 1" for murdering people who are already face down eh.

But you can't engage a SIed fighter meaning Versatile never comes into it

Note also there is no such distinction between "at 1 inch" and "within 1 inch", because per the rules "within 1 inch" includes 1 inch exactly

Versatile 1" is a hot mess of a trait that doesn't function and opens a whole bag of worms.
For this reason my group houseruled it to be, functionally, 1.001", which maintains the intention of the rule and closes the entire can of worms GW opened with this introduction.
