Warhammer: The Old World

I remember unit fillers!

I mean, it’s a bit telling when your game system has a price per model ratio so wrong that people have to resort to padding out units with other stuff. 😑

I’m surprised they’re encouraging it, two fold - first as suggested above “proxying” is really against what they’re after, which is you buying endless boxes of models.
Second, it’s one of the symptoms of why WFB went out of fashion…

I mean, I never felt the need to pad out my 40k Ork mobs by adding a cactus on a base… 🤔 …maybe I should have!! 🤣
Would’ve made it a bloody sight cheaper!!

On the other side though… I do like a nicely done diorama - and that spooky tree looks lovely.

Do you even change unit formations anymore? If not why not just make a nice big diorama (like Kings of War) base and find another way of recording casualties?

I recall a few people gluing Ork heads, arms and legs to barrels and stacks of tyres to pad out Kommando mobs.

In Old World, yes, very often with some units. Marching columns are a thing now.

Yeah, it was skipped for a bunch of editions. IIRC 3rd ed was the last edition to use it (at least in the way that column formations move faster). They took a few cool mechanics from Warhammer Historicals, which I assume has the marching column rules too.

I don´t like it, personally, in my army. The odd little regimental base (those four on a strip for 25mm or so) one, base, with a thing going on like some Animosity - sure. But not a fan of it otherwise.
I don´t care if anyone I face have it of course. I want my blocks to be just my ladz, real proud of my 30 Orc blocks.. ;)

Aye, I generally agree with you. I prefer to field actual minis but GW moved the Warcry Legionnaires to online only and bumped the price up too. No more buying them discounted through Wayland. I only get 3 of the small shieldy legionnaires in each box so it became unfeasible to expand the unit further.

I don’t mind mixing weapons in units tbh. Particularly for more chaotic hordes of rabble. As long as the front rank has the right ones so you can tell what they’re armed with, a few 2-Handed weapon dudes in there would look cool. I’m planning a block of marauders with a full mix of weapons so I can arm them as I like for different games.

Had a bank holiday mega battle, my skaven vs my pal’s empire (with a few Ogre mercs as allies), 5,000 points a side.

Was a blast, Warhammer at its best. My best unit turned out to be some rat swarms who munched up some outriders, then finished off a giant who was running away from getting lightning cannoned (again), and then ran down some fleeing greatswords. The finally got finished off by some Ironguts.

That's a big ole game. How long did it take? Biggest game I've played so far is 1250 and it took ages because I don't know the rules very well yet.

Nice looking armies there.

That looks super awesome! Never played that big in any old edition.. :)
But other games, and that was super awesome to sometimes do. Wish I was there! :D
