I think he looks great! Really nailed the look from the original artwork!*SNIP*
One question though - why would you start by doing the gold trim (which is raised, and therefore easier to get at) rather than the recessed red?

That´s the way to paint CSM. Drybrush the rim with a metal colour and fill in the main colour afterwards.Thanks. I started with the gold because it's easier to be a bit messy and cover the sides as well as the flat areas of the trim, then carefully infill the red. In theory. I've done metal Chaos Terminators (2 of 8 so far), the other way (red first then gold/brass/bronze trim) and lost the zenithal highlights due to having to tidy up.
In the grand scheme of things I don't think it matters which way I did it, I still end up back and forth tidying up anyhow.
For me, I think the key improvement would be to get the model a bit more planted in place - he looks a little daintily perched on the skulls and from some views a bit unbalanced.
It turned out that the 1989 UK version differs slightly from the later 1990 US version (mostly the rules/quests/some expansions, the board/tokens/miniatures are the same) and Hasbro's version is based on the 1990 US version (almost verbatim).
The UK version was tweaked over its run, the most obvious being the Heroquest Advanced edition (not to be confused with Advanced Heroquest which was a different game entirely) which came with some plastic henchmen in red.I know my version of HQ had some subtle differences from a friend's, in particular some different equipment cards. I was always curious about whether there was a different 'edition'. I don't know how either of us would have ended up with a US version though.
-check the mordheim discord, we've collected stl and boxed mini sources and and there are some really great ones!More of a musing/rambling post tonight, too humid in my part of the world to sit at the table...
Mordheim city of the damned...
A few years ago I was playing the video game, and that inspired me to get into the tabletop version of Mordheim, so (as well as buying/building terrain and having only ever played 1 game) I started collecting warbands. So far I have witch hunters, "Sisters of Sigmar" and Dwarf treasure hunters warbands, and I've been planning for a long while a human mercenaries warband.
This is my human mercenaries warband in the video game (the only "flavour" you get is Reiklanders) -

I have a GW Empire captain that I could use, painted and based up a number of years ago, for WHQ '95, which could quite easily fit into a Reiklanders warband -

The video game is also what partly inspired my kitbashed Wolf Priest of Ulric (he's the only Middenheim flavour you get)-

A number of years ago I bought an Ogre, Brutogg Corpse-Eater, from WHQ Cursed City, for use in WHQ '95/Mordheim, but I'm not overly keen on him as a specific warband member, he's more of a "dramatis personae" kind of looking figure rather than a hired sword wearing "gang colours".
This is the Ogre in the video game -

The other day I came across these, by Wargames Atlantic, so I've bought a box of them (they're on their way from Wayland Games) -

I think one of those painted up in Reikland colours will look great. Plus I can use them in Heroquest because they're a box of 9! (For less than £30!!)
I've also bought some GW Ogre Irongut armour bits (the round bit over the belly) to add to make for a more video game look.
They come with "Conquistador" style helmets but that's fine because "Janie" (yeah she's got a gun), my marksman in the game, wears one so it's a "valid look" that references the video game -

However...
...I'm kind of stuck what to use for other human mercenaries "bodies".
I don't want to use Frostgrave stuff, reasons.
The best I can come up with for Reiklanders is using GW handgunners, state troops, and greatswords, or the OG militia box set.
I've also mulled over a Middenheimers warband, but my best attempt at an idea for those is using Teutogen guard and/or handgunners/state troops and sticking White Wolf knights heads/cloaks on them, and painting them with a "Space Wolves in the Old World" look.
Both of those ideas will just end up looking like I've lazily plucked figures from WFB units and they're not really for Mordheim!
I've considered Highland Miniatures stuff, but having bought their not-Balthasar Gelt (twice in 2 different scales) and some of their handgunners, I'm not impressed.
I've also looked at Vae Victis, and nothing of theirs grabs me.
Would appreciate some thoughts/recommendations on Reiklander/Middenheim warband figures, not the OG metal ones (as GW only made youngbloods, champions and captains)?
My crazy mind also wants me to build a 4ft bridge, like this, oh my!!

Hmmm... One day... Maybe...
Thanks as always for looking, C&C welcome.
I’d LOVE to see that bridge happen![]()
