N18 What would non-House gangs be called?

Depending on the background, I would find "street gang" or "outsiders" to be quite good. I also like the "renegades" mentioned earlier.
Or if it is a gang from one of the lesser known lower clan houses maybe "outcasts".

However, Venators are an (temporary) association of bounty hunters. These should be suitably experienced and battle-tested veterans. The Venator statistics seem to me to be too high for any lower street gang.

For example, I would like to have a dilapidated "shanty gang" (or "shelter gang") at some point. Alternatively a "dweller gang" or "vigilantes group" as a home militia in a small settlement. When it comes to the vigilante group, I think of some hired guards with slightly better weapons and values and the rest are simple settlers who pick up their weapons when the alarm is raised and come running. In my opinion, the values of the Hive Dwellers from the rulebook, as well as Hive Scum and Hangers-On from GotU are the best starting point for such purposes.

HI @Jacob Dryearth, so for my group, I rewrote the Venator list into 'Gangs sui generis/Solitaire gangs' - i.e. gangs of their own type and/or minor gangs, using the traits system I suggested, inspired by FW's own books (and of course going back to 3.5/4th edition regiment/chapter traits). I've taken this out of my rulebook and put a pdf on drive. As it comes from my campaign ruleset it doesn't match the base ruleset, but I hope it inspires your own ideas :)

Oh wow! This is exactly what I was hoping to do. From my quick skimming I didn't see anything that prevents this from use in a regular campaign, what specifically from it is not compatible with the game not using your house rules?

@Jacob Dryearth - good question. Off the top of my head, I think the main things are not the core mechanics of the list - cost changes (I reduced most cc weapons and wargear to encourage use), how territories are used (we use oldmunda 'work territories' by gangers so that affects Redemptionists and Ash Nomads) and experence & advancements (juves promote to gangers, gangers promote to specialists, etc, using random advancements table). The psychic powers, etc, are easy enough to include.

I'll PM you our rulebook as it will make more things clearer, perhaps.

Sure. I'm going to take the warband and rework it for standard Necromunda to use in my campaigns.

Great, good news! Feel free to go mad with it - there are other kind of ideas that can easily be created within it (Spyrers being the last outlanders gang to be included, but one I am curious to wait on SG for). I'll upload a de-campaigned version into the Vault too.

My group has joked with me about creating an Inq28 ruleset for ourselves - this traits/legacy idea was one way to test that out too. Of course the Venator rule set was partly made with Inq28 in mind, but sadly isn't as flexible as it should be to really represent an esoteric range of options.

Yes Venators, and your Solitaire rules are pretty much all that's needed to play Ing28 with NM rules. I have always thought 200+ page fan supplements for Inquisimumda are completely unnecessary, as no set of strict list building rules can account for every player's creativity. The game already has all one needs, it's a toolbox for narrative gaming. See my 1 page =]17 [= document for my approach.
