What's on your mind?

I've been trying to figure out some alien looking basing to my minis lately and it's been frustrating. Why does no one make static grass or turf in anything but greens and browns?

Where's the crimson red, day glow yellow, FUCHSIA?!

I've been scouring the local hobby stores and can get tufts and a few other things in wild colors but not the 'base' material. You would think at least one or two companies would make something, even it if is a bit of a niche market.
@Tiny do you have any ideas?

Well, your FLGS is probably not stocking them as they’re very niche and I imagine most people want grass to look like… grass, Earth grass. Not Martian, alien or demonic.

However if you’re willing to order in there’s absolutely loads out there.

GreenStuffWorld:

GamersGrass Alien Tufts:

GamersGrass Alien laser-cut plants:

Krautcover “Forges of Doom” basing:

Geek Gaming Scenics (Bright Red)

Blue:

So many bright flocks and lichen I’ll just add the whole list:

And so on. Hope that helps!!

P.S. As a Goblin Green aficionado I’ll point out that PVA, sand and paint has been a staple of the community for decades. Nothing stopping you putting down some sand and painting it neon yellow, then adding weird tufts, plants, rocks etc.

Comedy in Oldmunda is up to you, no gangs are specifically designed to be funny or uncompetitive, but you can model and play them as such if you want to. Trolls, Smurfs, insane Redemptionist etc have all made an appearance.
Yup. In the 90s my Redemptionist priest got shot in the head and became a vegetable. To remedy his state he received a lobochip though his minions still fed him diligently corpse starch each day. This may count as comedy. I am sure with the Ash Wastes supplement of today he would be able to steer a motorized walker smiting down the heathens at breakneck speed while wearing the slobbering grin of a feebleminded imbecile.

I’m trying to make my own blood red grass. I will see if I can do a sample soon to show if the process works

Shortly after the tabletop wargaming convention near my hometown a RPG convention will take place. I have maybe played in the last 16 years about three times a roleplaying game and decided I will give it a go. Game engine will be GURPS 3rd of which I have several books though the campaign world will be Toril (Forgotten Realms). Why? Because if you advertise as offering a GURPS session no one will show up. Not a sliver of a doubt about it. So you have to channel your inner used-car salesman and point out first in your elevator pitch that it´s going to be Forgotten Realms (got them hooked) and after that you reveal the game engine.

So I have done already the player characters and drawn a hex map for a hex crawl and come up with lots of POI (places of interests) which require both combat and social skills. Then I wanted to do a mechanism for a campaign-specific disease and thought about to ask AI. I was stunned. Chat GPT was well-versed in GURPS 3rd, had knowledge about the specific area where the campaign was going to be and cranked out in maybe two seconds a very good disease mechanic. I then used to do other things which would take me too much of a time such as doing NPC templates such as peasants, soldiers, cultists, etc.

The revelation was for me: Who asks today for a new RPG engine when AI can function as a competent author of your favourite rule system of the past? I also watched a few YT videos of how to do hex crawls in GURPS and found out that there is a group of people who find the nomenclature of GURPS advantages/disadvantages offensive (example: Slave Mentality). LOL! Nah, I won´t touch any new RPG books. AI, best friend of mankind, has your back.

In my search for a comedic gang I looked at Wyrd Gatherings. A full Beastmaster gathering with 8 members will have between 16 to 32 guys on the board! And if you go for a mixed group that is a lot of crazy abilities to track!

Is Antenocitis Workshop still dead? I thought they’d closed down in 2022 but they still have a website which I found looking for something similar to one of their old static grass tubs so I can recreate it.

I'd probably steer clear of it for now until there's more information.

I was randomly thinking about Second Best the other day.

Can anyone remind me what it is second best to? And, even better, anyone know where to find that snippet of lore? (I'm pretty sure it's one of the original N95 books - possibly including Outlanders.)

Second Best is second best to Wildsnake.

Wildsnake (ORB p34 text box): The favoured drink of Underhive is the potent spirit known as Wildsnake. It is brewed from the skins and flesh of snakes caught in the badzones. The provenance of each bottle is guaranteed by the dead snake preserved within. Wildsnake is a clear sharp tasting liquid the bitterness of which is derived from the venom in the snakes themselves.

Second Best (ORB p36 text box): For those who cannot afford the price of Wildsnake the next best is quite literally Second Best. Second Best is brewed from rat pelts too mouldy to use for anything else, slugs too rancid to sell as slave food. and household waste so disgusting that it's better not to think about it. Conveniently, it is almost impossible to think about anything after drinking a bottle of Second Best...
