Nothing login-related, but I do have recurring problems with connecting to the website every now and again, usually get an access violation error of some sort. Happens about once every couple of months, lasts for about half an hour, and goes away again.

Has anyone else had weird login issues here? I normally stay logged in, since I mostly access the site on a personal laptop nobody else uses. But I had to log in again the other day and again just now. Only this site; hasn't happened with any others.

There’s a check box saying something like “remember this device for 30 days” which I have checked, so roughly each month it asks.

Perhaps if you log in without checking that it keeps you logged in until your browser cache clears??

A baggy shirt with the collar removed can be the basis of many outfits. Get one that's way too big and wear a belt over it or tie a length of cloth around your waist. Hang pouchy things from said belt. Leggings may feel weird but they fit in better than most modern trousers - dark greens and browns are a good choice. Men's footwear is quite tricky. It's fairly easy to make a Bycocket hat out of felt though if you want a robin-hoodish look. A wool or felt blanket with a large brooch can cover many anachronistic sins, and if you have some time perhaps make a hood for it.

Generally avoid things with pockets, and use lots of trinkets. If you have a bit of spare leather/pleather, make some bracers - they're easy and help hide modern cuffs.

But seriously, are you making it yourself or do you not care if it's purchased? There are cosplayers and groups like the SCA (society for creative anachronism) who sell pieces and even entire outfits. Etsy would probably be a good bet as well.

For either, what is your budget (bearing in mind that off the shelf can be expensive, but making items might be just as expensive in different ways)?

Define "costume"; what kind of outfit are you thinking of wearing/what are you comfortable wearing? What are your friends going to wear?
How far down the rabbit hole do you need to go, i.e. are your friends committing to authentic looking clothing?Are they getting lots of accessories? Are they getting period footwear, or are they using sensible, worn-in footwear and trying to hide how modern the shoes/boots are with tied on fur or footwraps?

How long do you have until the event?

If making your own outfit, that can be a lot of work (making sure you get the right kind of fabric, getting padding and/or inner lining as necessary), but you can get a lot of free patterns for cutting out fabric online, e.g.

It will make a lot of sense to ask your friends for pictures of what they'll be wearing, either as a description, reference pictures or literally them doing a trial fit of their outfits, then taking a selfie and sending you the pictures.

I’ve thrown something together out of an oversized t-shirt and scraps of fabric. I will put picture on the cosplay thread soon.

In my WARdrobe I have a phone holder positioned above my work area. I tried making YouTube videos some time ago but realised that if is a lot more than I bargained for.

But is there much interest here if I was to do something on twitch just to make a Yaktribe hang out? I’m not interested in making it a career but I am interested in spending time with other members from this community.

Scrolling through Instagram and I saw some lovely Mordian Iron Guard - except they weren’t. They were Victoria Miniatures Fusiliers… I thought - it’s amazing that a we’ve got to the point where she can just straight up make almost exact clones of the Iron Guard aesthetic, even painted the same as the 90s originals and not be in the crosshairs of GW Legal.

There’s even a Pretorian option with head and equipment swaps but the same bodies.

Which begs the question “why haven’t GW made an updated plastic kit of these themselves?”
Do they care so little about these old regiments that they’ve abandoned them completely??

Were they such poor sellers that it’s not worth it? If so why do 3rd parties make them?

Surely for GW it’s a perfect choice - go Necromunda style, one sprue duplicated, five bodies with two weapon choices and then a set of Mordian heads and a set of Pretorian heads and a bit of equipment to separate them and voila!!! One box, two regiments covered.

Do the same with a command option etc and that’s another two regiments for the Impera… Astra whatever… covered.

My opinion/observation: Because 3rd party retailers can more easily cater to nieche factions with tiny but dedicated fan bases that GW can't be arsed to pick up.

At the end of the day, there aren't that many fans of the old stuff in absolute numbers compared to fans of, say, Cadia, and leaving that IP to former GW people like Victoria Lamb makes them look good and cost them nothing.

Along the lines of "leave that sort of thing to people like the folks at Victoria, who have some of our cred, then maybe we can sell some tanks to the weirdos we normally wouldn't have reached."

I saw these earlier today. Is there anywhere that stocks them in the UK?

I’m not sure… is my current answer.

I have ordered from Victoria direct in the past (and am in fact working on some of her sculpts right now!) and paid the shipping from AUS to UK.

It was around 2013/14 and was reasonably pricy but these days the UK seems determined to penalise anyone importing anything, so you might find it unforgivingly expensive.

However… these are on Kickstarter so might be cheaper even with the border import nonsense.

Failing that - she does have a lot of stuff for download and home 3D Printing. She’s even 3D scanned some of her older physical sculpts too. I can attest that her sculpts are top notch and fun to paint!!

I know she's branched out with manufacturing, so those of us in the US who order from her get models made in the US and shipped within the states so there's no outrageous international shipping. I don't know if they do that in the UK too. (i found this information on their website)
