Worst. Modelling Session. Ever.
I hate the new Plastic Van Saar's. They're fiddly as f**k and painfully monopose. And today I got a reminder of why I hadn't fully committed to putting them together.
But let me back up a bit.
Earlier in the week, I actually, finally managed to put together a Van Saar list I actually liked. Sure, I can debate the value of giving up the ability to carry the Special/Heavy Weapon slots in my Gang, but I managed to get in six members. Which for me, is a record.
Then came the assembly. Sweet holy Emperor, my least favourite part about this gang. Behold.
So here's the two champions, Rei on the left, and Wolf on the right. Wolf looks alright, if a little lazy - when lacking a Telescopic Sight that was particularly Van Saar-y, a Space Marine Boltgun Scope works as well it seems.
As for Rei, well...originally, she was going to be based on her original model, a modification of this old model -
So you can see how radically differant I've had to change things because none of the legs were giving me the pose I was after, and the Combi-Plas was fighting the arm joint. Even now I'm giving her time for the Green Stuff to dry, I'm still not 100% sure her feet are level with the ground, or if the Shield Arm is posed more naturally or ugh.
And then there's the Leader. I wanted him to be standing and aiming to his left with that Plasma Pistol of his. Sadly, when it came to standing legs and getting him into the right pose...
Yeah, two bodies and several legs later, and I still couldn't get him into the correct pose, even with the aid of Green Stuff (which probably speaks to my abilities as a sculptor). For the record, I was trying to avoid using the leg on the crate, mostly because I dislike that part. I could chop the crate out, but then finding something equally big to stand on is a hassle, and he's still stuck in the same pose...
...and I ruined my afternoon cup of tea by trying to finish the Sugar Bag off >_<
It's really not been a good day for me -_-
Any help or advice is welcome at this stage. I'm just debating throwing them into the trash can and joining someone with less fiddly models I can do some things with.
EDIT - Since this has evolved into a Project Log, I've decided to share some information and choices here. The full list can be viewed above in the Hyperlink.

Champions
The current state of the Van Saar Champions, Rei (Left) and Wolf (Right). Roughly 90% finished -...

- Originally, the Gang was going to be a remake of my old Necromunda Gang from 10-12 years ago when I played the game with a friend of mine. Eventually however, I decided to just keep some elements and worked from there, especially given things like the revised Fluff.
- Speaking of, while I kept around a couple of names from the old gang, most of them were thrown out the window. For some context of how terrible some of the old names were, I had a Gang Leader named "Obi-Wan" and a Heavy named "Arnie". I was sixteen at the time. While the nicknaming convention was kept, you can see why most of these names were thrown out the window.
- Rei and Wolf were both models from the old gang, here reincarnated as new models. Again, I was sixteen at the time.
- I actually owe some of this list to some of the lists I looked at here on Yak. At first I was questioning why people would forsake the only points where you could mount Heavy or Special weapons...but then I was able to squeeze in an extra Champion by doing so, bringing the model count to a record breaking six. Basically, I learned to level off some cool factor and tried to build more practical, mission oriented loadouts.
- On that note, I gave Pulsar Mentor. It seems to be a less picked skill, but I chose it to start power levelling my dudes and get those precious Specialists and Champions out as quick as possible. His next level up's probably going to be Gunfighter so he can make use of that Laspistol of his.
- Wolf has a Lasgun with Telescopic Sight because for some reason Van Saar's don't get the Long Las to start with. He was originally a regular Ganger, but I thought he'd serve as a better Sniper with the Marksman ability.
- For all my talk of mission oriented loadouts, I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing with Rei. Maybe if I gave her Valkyrie's Smoke Grenades instead she'd work as a Support Champion...?
- Speaking of, Las Carbine won out over Lasgun in the end. Both of these are pretty good - Lasgun is more accurate, while the Carbine can string out more hits on a target. Both seem reliable and you get what you pay for, however...
- ...The nerf to Shock Staff's have really hurt my policy on giving folks backup weapons. At least the Laspistol stops them making unarmed attacks, but you're telling me they couldn't shave five to ten points off those things so we could get a cheap melee weapon like everyone else?
- I've not decided on a Colour Scheme yet. I do have that fancy new Airbrush that needs using as well. Considerations >_<
