A quick update from my side: after starting yesterday evening digging through my bits I spend the night trying possible combinations and assembling the first models for the competition. In the beginning I the beginning I had the vague idea of the purge of a monster nest by a group of Redemptionists/an inquisitor's retinue. When I started with the first two miniatures I decided to go with the inquisitor story, because the combination of a flagllant body, a frosthrave cultist head and a flamer looked some kind of lame.
So I went with the head of some whfb empire guy. At the end he looks good enough to be an imperial missionar. Missing insignia will be compensated through some freehands on the cloak.
(Memo to me: remove the mold lines before painting!
)
The second one needed a bit more attention and GS use, as the bits didn't fit perfectly together. He is build out of the legs of a catachaner, the body from a outrider (or greatsword I don't know), an arm of a Space Marine, 1/2 arm of a flagellant, a bit GS and some metal melta, whose origin is unknown (at least to me). The head is from the whfb empire outriders. He serves as an henchman in my little group.
With two "good" guys I needed to get some terrible looking monsters together. I bought a box of goblin wolrsriders ages ago and found as well a lot of saurus warriors from the 4th edition starter. To put these two together I used the body of the empire miltia sprue ( as some may already have noticed, I bought a lot of plastic empire stuff for warhammer fantasy before GW killed the game off).
The arms are from a 2nd edition 40k plastic orc and from a beastmen sprue. Because the monster is rather small I equipped it with wings from a warhammer quest bat. It will lead an attack from behind on the intruders.
After some hours of sleep I continued in the morning putting some zombie bits together. The poor guy got his body split it at least two parts and won't come out of this mission alive. I put some GS on the body to portray his guts lying on the floor...okay, that's maybe nothing you want to think about while having breakfast, but the 40k universe is a cruel place...Maybe I will add some spiders to this poor fella, because I found a few in the box.
The next model was another henchman. As I mentioned above I decided to go for a radical inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos, therefore it is appropriate to use an eldar weapon. The result can be seen down below, the parts are from Space Maries, an empire body, Cadianer legs,a catachaner head and the arms from the flaggellant and the cadianer range.
Now I realized that I had 3 living and one dead guy but no real leader for my little group. I dug deep to find parts, which would fit to build some crazy Inquisitor. I started with the legs of an empire militia man and the body of a catachaner. The legs look a bit skinny compared to the body but a) there are no beaches known in 40k and b) my inquisitor always wears long trousers - so no real need bulking the legs up.
To make him stand out of the rest I used the cloak of the empire outriders, which has a huge sword attached that will fit well as energy weapon. As the boss he also got armed with a plasma pistol. I had some difficulties with the head, but in the end I gave him the head of an empire flagellant, what makes him look criminally insane but portays him in an authentic way.
That's it at the moment from my side, I now have to find parts to build more monsters, this tyranid head and the lizardmen lot is a good starting point though.
