Please asking any questions, provide feedback or threaten me bodily harm here for changes to the site and forums. For feedback on the Underhive Tools updates, please post in the tools development thread.

YakTribe Forum Upgrade
The last few days I've been updating the forums to the latest version of XenForo plus a lot of additional plugins and changes. This has been the largest update to the forum systems since I first moved from the old SMF to XenForo. Due to the amount of changes, many members of YakTribe and people used to regular forum behavior may experience some initial confusion due to the new Topics system.

My goal is to provide as much instruction as possible on how to get the best experience from the community in the form of videos and online guides. These should be available very soon.

You'll find a list of updates to the Underhive Tools over here. This is a list of changes to the forums and other components of the site:
  • XenForo forum version updated from 1.5 to 2.1
  • Overall styles changes to new UI.X Pro theme with custom styling
  • Gallery and Vault updated to XF2 versions
  • Gallery now contains many Categories for common GW games present here and other general categories. You may add your albums to either the categories or personal albums, the latter allowing you to set your own privacy permissions.
  • All existing gallery albums that had images being used for gangs and fighters on the tools have been associated with the Necromunda/Gangs category, the only category that is visible to the tools going forward.
  • Onsite Chat system replaced with a new robust chat interface with many new features. You should see the chat bar at the bottom of the browser. Discord is separate from this onsite chat and is not affected.
  • Member map has been removed for now until a replacement is available. This means all location systems on the main Yak site are no longer functional. The player meet system is mostly complete but is now awaiting a replacement mapping system.
  • Friends system replaced with Guilds (see below for details)
  • Tournament system added (see below for details)
  • Bookmarks system allows you to bookmark posts, threads, albums, media, vault items and add comments to the bookmark for later use. Want to remember where this great post was on a certain subject? The search function failing you? Bookmarks are your friend.
  • Reactions now include more than Like. You can react with several different emotions now. Reactions provide scores just like previously with Likes, however there are is negative scoring implemented, only positive and neutral.
  • Push notifications now available. The first time you access the forums it will ask to enable push notifications. This will push relevant alerts to your browser, OS or phone the way many modern applications function nowadays. You may turn on/off push notifications at any time and you can customize alert and push notifications for many aspects of the site separately.
  • Table support added to editor. Part of the core XenForo experience, you now have access to adding tables to posts without having to generate all the BBcode yourself. There are buttons on the editor interface for adding the tables and components.
  • Improved Gallery embedding for posts. Displaying albums and media directly from your gallery is now much easier and displays far better than the old version.
  • Covers have been added. These allow content owners to create custom covers for many aspects of the forums. Thread starters can add a custom cover, perfect for hobby logs! Set custom covers for your user profile and vault entries as well. Upload images, position as needed or set a custom color.
  • Post Comments are now available. When replying directly to a post, you can now either Reply as normal or make a Comment. The conceptual difference is that a Comment is simply a quick response to a particular post that is not intended to further the whole thread conversation. Want to simply say "thanks! This was really helpful" but didn't want to simply leave a Like? Post a Comment which appears directly inside the post, not added to the end of the thread. Remember, they're not intended for long conversations and don't allow multi-layer branching like Reddit, only a reply depth of 2 is currently allowed.
  • Trending is a new way to see what is going on in the community. Based on a combination of factors, it presents any threads or even media and vault entries that are currently active or "trending".
  • Topics and Nodes system introduced for forum and thread management (see below for details)

Guilds
A direct replacement for the old Friends system, the Guilds integration takes local groups to the next level. You are able to create your own guild which at its basic concept is a group of your gaming friends who may play all types of games together. Once a guild is created, you can visit each of your friend's profiles on YakTribe and Invite them to the guild. What can you do with a guild?

Rosters
Create a Roster of players for a specific game featured here. You may create multiple rosters, each for different games and members. The member must be part of your guild to join the roster though. A roster for Necromunda Underhive will grant direct access to add gangs to a campaign in the Underhive tools, just like the old Friends system. You won't need to find and invite gangs if all campaign participants are members of the roster.

Tournaments
In addition to tools integration, the Guilds and Rosters also integrate with the new Tournaments system. You can create tournaments for any featured game here or a general tournament. You can create a solo tournament which is simply any users on YakTribe, or a team tournament integrating with the Rosters. There are many different types of tournaments available with the ability to add description, rules, min and max players and other options.

Want a game added to YakTribe for integration with these functions? Simply contact me and I'll get it added.

Topics and Nodes
Just to add onto all the new features, the updated forums includes a new Topics and Nodes system. The nodes enhances each forum section, allowing me to customize the look and behavior and these will gradually be enhanced over time as I get used to the functionality and really customize the experience. The Topics changes the way threads work with the nodes (forums).

The biggest changes for Topics on the forum is the Necromunda section. Instead of its own dedicated category and separate forums, it's now a single node. Inside that node you'll find all the threads from all the old sections in the one place. Instead of visiting each separate forum, you can now simply toggle on/off each Topic within that node to focus on what you want. The same goes for posting a new thread where you can select the Topic relevant to the discussion and even select another.

You can also select Topics from other nodes, if they're available as sub-topics. This will allow them to be found even when a user is looking at all threads or trending view and focusing on specific topics.

Is there a way to go back to the main forum page from a subforum group, other than selecting forum from the dropdown menu or hitting the back button?

For example if I click on the “Tribe News” forum, then click then click the button at the top that takes me back to “Yaktribe Games” i can only access the three forums that are part of that group.

There is no li k in the Yaktribe Games subgroup that takes you back to the main forum page.

Edit: also where is the rules questions sub forum? Currently it looks like it is just pumped into the all encompassing Necromunda group.

I’m playing with this as I’m editing this comment. I assume the way I’m supposed to find rules queries is to go to the Necromunda Node and then select the sub-Node for rules?

If this is the case is there a way to save a selection of different node selections as shortcuts for each user? It’s going to get really annoying to have to select and unselect sub-nodes to view different categories in the forum and keep track of what I have and haven’t read.

I am probably an old grognard, but I liked that the old forum was a proper forum and not a #metadata social media platform.

It's early days I know, and you could already be looking into some of these. Perhaps I'm using something wrong as well as this kind of system is new to me - but I have a couple of queries/suggestions:

1) Is there something to differentiate threads with new posts from threads I'm up to date with in the "traditional" forum areas? At the moment a post I have read looks the same as a post I have not.

2) Is there something to differentiate the "sticky" threads from the "general" threads - for example in the Necromunda subforum there are quite a lot of sticky threads (with the little red pin), and you have to scroll reasonably far down to get to the "general" threads. The little red pin doesn't feel like it's enough to suggest "scroll further young padawan, there are fresh and hip threads below". Formerly they were separated by an obvious box, which was a bit clearer.

3) Personally I find it difficult to read the forum areas with art behind the names/descriptions. I feel the images are too bright, so the contrast between bright image and ligth text makes it difficult for me. It might just be me, and if so never mind, but it might be clearer if the images were dulled/darkened a little bit more?

Overall however I love the new look - much more modern, and I thank you for all of your hard work and dedication (y)

I came here to say all the things @Stoof says above... So no need to say them... but I'm thinking them... in secret.

Quick question from somthing I picked up and may have misunderstood:

I use some of my finished mini pictures, stored in my "Stoof's Stuff" album, as ganger images in the tools. Does that mean the entirity of my finished stuff album is now marked as out-of-bounds for the art ticker at the top?

(I admit it, I like seeing my stuff come up there amongst all the cool stuff )

Also any chance the menu drop down can be put on the right hand side to match the drop down menu location of the entry page, or vice versa?

It’s a minor annoyance but little inconsistencies between pages make the page harder to navigate.

Previously, you could tell if there were unread posts in a thread by it being marked bold in the list, but I can't find something equivalent in the new system. Am I missing something here?
I'm not sure, but it looks like once I've read something in the Alerts, it turns bluish

Edit: oops meant to comment not reply... still so new

You should have chat rights now. I'm going to have to review staff permissions fully since you're separate from standard registration rights.

I can’t find the ‘gangs’ tab on user profiles to see what gangs people have created, has it been hidden somewhere or am I being dense?

Edit- @Malo I moved this post from a different thread and it has stuck it here instead of at the end of this thread. This post is from 27/05/19

Still trying to get to grips with the changes but I’ll get there, it’s looking great though.(y)
I too miss the sticky’s being separated by the boarders and the threads with unread post being a different colour, also the way it use to jump straight to the unread posts. It was also really useful having the page skipping thing at the top of the threads as well as the bottom. I use yaktribe almost exclusively on my mobile.
I’m sure It’ll become more intuitive to me with a bit of time.
Thanks @Malo

Click on Forums instead of YakTribe Games. The Forums link at the start of the breadcrumb is the forum main page. The YakTribe Games should probably be renamed as it's misleading.

I’m playing with this as I’m editing this comment. I assume the way I’m supposed to find rules queries is to go to the Necromunda Node and then select the sub-Node for rules?
Correct, instead of sub-forums, they're now topics. So in the Necromunda node, you can use the Topic options to drill down to what you want specifically.

Well it actually remembers what topics you're looking at but I see what you mean for going directly to what used to be a sub-forum. I'll see what options there are for maybe adding the topics to the node container which would in effect achieve the same thing. Your feedback is appreciated (that sounds so canned lol), but I need these responses to tune what I'm trying to do here and make it work for you all. If many users just get annoyed then it's not working for us, it's not a better system and we may need to go back to sub-forums.

1) Is there something to differentiate threads with new posts from threads I'm up to date with in the "traditional" forum areas? At the moment a post I have read looks the same as a post I have not.
There seems to be an issue with a lot of the color styling and new flagging. It's a high priority for me as that's one of the core features of XF that must work properly. I couldn't do without new post coloring and behavior.

I'll see what I can do. Since all the sub-forums are now merged, there's a lot more than there used to be. If drilling down to a particular topic(s) then it's not as bad, and maybe some of the stickies shouldn't be there anymore but instead featured another way.

Agreed. I think I had it tuned more on the dev site when testing it so I'll take a look and adjust it.

I use some of my finished mini pictures, stored in my "Stoof's Stuff" album, as ganger images in the tools. Does that mean the entirity of my finished stuff album is now marked as out-of-bounds for the art ticker at the top?
That's correct. One of the big requests for the media featuring is making sure all the gang images weren't showing. If you're using the same album but want other media within the album to show, it needs to be moved to an album in another category or personal.

Also any chance the menu drop down can be put on the right hand side to match the drop down menu location of the entry page, or vice versa?
Yes this is something I was trying to get done by release but couldn't. I'll be adjusting the main site to suite the forums.
Previously, you could tell if there were unread posts in a thread by it being marked bold in the list, but I can't find something equivalent in the new system. Am I missing something here?
As above, it's a high priority for me to get fixed.

I have 2 questions please. 1. How can we delete media like we used to? and 2. How can we make an image into an album cover. Thx
Delete should be returned to your permissions now. I believe you worked out the covers since I approved some for you?

I'm not sure how you add a node to an existing thread. Like my Plog, which is also a fancy Minature log too, just has "Miniatures". How do I add "Painting Log" to it so it filters correctly?

Due to Topics affecting the way the threads work, changing topics is only available to staff. I can't grant that ability even if I wanted to (unless I gave you lots of other powers). I've updated yours and I am going to be modifying as many as possible myself.
