Well I'll see what I can do. Pay day is on the 12th so that only leaves me about 3 weeks (I don't always paint very quickly) and I may have to wait a week for stuff to be delivered, hmmm. Not sure what hobby funds I have this month either...

I don't think I'll be entering this one after all. Need to get half a dozen paints (not Citadel), and can't find them all in stock at a single seller, as well as getting the squigs/herders. So I think time will be too short, if my hobby budget this month isn't also. Oh well, maybe another time.

Hold that thought, I may be back on.

What I wanted was Warcolours Red Glaze. They're in Cyprus, and it'd be nearly £10 to get from them due to shipping and there doesn't seem to be any UK sellers, so shipping time/cost was prohibitive. Plus a couple of other paints I couldn't find to order from the same seller as others I need were causing a time/cost issue - too much p&p, too many deliveries.

However I've decided to not use the Warcolours glaze as I think I could use Vallejo Red Ink + vallejo glaze medium. And I just found all the paints I need at a single e-tailer, so...

I've got some squigs + herders (2nd hand but still on sprue), the paints and some nice resin bases coming now. Just need to wait. All things being equal I might get just about 3 weeks to paint them...

I keep changing my mind. I was working on some GW spiders, but then I saw a good deal on a box of WGA spiders on eBay. They just arrived, but now I may have to start over...

Maybe use a couple of the smaller ones you already have with the WGA ones, @Ben_S? To get that swarm feeling. Those WGA spiders are nice, btw. Reminds of something between Shelob and the Harry Potter scene with Aragogs children.

OK so I'm in, my 2nd hand Squig herd sprues arrived today, along with the resin bases, and the paints I needed arrived yesterday so I'm good to go. So...

I, Raven Morpheus hearby enter Yakcomp 41 - beastmaster, with my entry. My WIP thread is my plog here

The plan is 2 herders and 3 Squigs, maybe more Squigs (I think I have 6) but I'm also making these for use in WHQ '95 so technically I only need 3, although I'm short 4 herders going by the WHQ '95 rules...

I have just about 3 weeks to do them...

Well, the issue with starting early is to find oneself with (too much) time to change one's mind.

I just got 2 awesome Gamezone miniatures that would make great Wyrds...

And I am now in the middle of nowhere with a half painted Wyrd, a set of beasts half based, two more potential Wyrds and another set of beasts in the making...

So I kitbashed a beastmaster last year but haven't done anything with it since... would it be acceptable to finish and paint it for this competition or is that considered cheating?

I have a bunch of small plastic spiders somewhere that I was going to use but I can always kitbash another beast if need be. I only needed him for one scenario last year so he never got finished, just figured this would be the ideal opportunity and give me a bit of a push to actually complete something for once!

I’d go for it. If they decide he’s too done to be used here, just enter him in the FYSC (Finish Your Stuff Challenge) thread. If they say “no problem” enter him and his critters in both threads. Either way you get stuff finished!

Half my entry is done (bar a few quick tweaks to the Gobbo Inside™ and varnish), these are not final photos (especially as they're a bit blurry) -

The main man and his little pet are pretty much done. Just need to paint him some prey for bonus points. About time I actually managed to finish a competition entry for the first time ever.
