The YakComp 48 theme is:

MUSICAL INTERLUDE as suggested by @Punktaku
Take something from a song and bring it into the game system of your choice. It could be a character, a monster, a place, or a concept. For example: Bad Leroy Brown, a One-eyed One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater, Xanadu, concepts are hard…. Mentioning the song you’re working off of is required.

You have until midnight on Sunday the 24th September. Usual caveat applies - it'll be about 6am Monday morning UK time that I actually close it. Probably later as it's TribeMeet 2023 weekend (tickets still available as I write this!) and I'll probably be exhausted and totally sick of all hobby enterprises. In a good way.

Usual rules apply except where they don't. Y'all know the drill, any questions ask away!

Emperor speed!

I invite @Biggle_Bear as joint-winner of Comp 47, plus @Tiny (because he just LOVES thinking of themes) and @Punktaku as next quickest (You all make it very complicated by both finishing quickly and scoring well you know), to each think up a category for comp 48.

I will put up the poll for the theme choice on Sunday, or sooner if all four themes are submitted before then.

Why not check out the Brainstorming thread for something to tickle those inspiration nodes. (non-nominators with a good idea, perhaps post it there?).

Some of the older comp topics from a few years back might also be worth a re-visit for the newer members.

My suggestion:

Skug The Magic Dragon.

Skug the Magic Dragon
Lives in the Sump
Wallowing in the toxic flow
of sh*t from a broken pump...

Build a terrifying sump dragon, wyvern, wyrm or what have you - something dragonny... but 'munda. Or similar for your chosen game system (like, well, a Dragon if you're doing Mordheim).

(Shamelessly purloined from @trollmeat and @rustedchrome)

Can I get away with ... "Paint a load of board game minis in time for Tribemeet"?

Ok, ok, I'll recycle my same theme from last time... Basic mooks!

Those who are about to die, salute you!
Build and paint a unit or cohesive group of 3 or more miniatures who make up the backbone of a force. Basic chumps. Expendable mooks. Could be half a dozen gangers, 3 escort ships or a unit of 20 spearmen.

There’s probably an orc song out there by someone like Blind Guardian or Cirith Ungol…. I’m pretty sure Gloryhammer have one about whacking goblins with a magic hammer….

Awesome choice!

Two obvious choices spring to mind - The Beatles, “Maxwells Silver Hammer” could be very easy to implement.

However for fun it’d be the Benny Hill classic, “Earnie (The fastest milkman in the west)”.

Anyone remember that song..

"la la la... Warhammer Quest Orcs... la la la ... So many plastic doors... la la la"..?

Well if you’ve got any The Hobbit or Lord if the Rings to do…

Songs it is! Go! Sunday 24th September with the usual caveat (i.e. actually Monday 25th about 6am in the UK, in this case whenever I've woken dazed and confused in a strange building hundreds of miles from home, as it's TRIBEMEET 2023 WEEKEND and we have TICKETS STILL REMAINING if you want to come).

Destroy the orcs by 3 inches of blood comes to mind.

Considering so much stuff I have is OOP and often can't be fielded in modern editions would the song Obsolete by fear factory work 🤔

On a serious note the song I will work with is Big Iron by Marty Robbins. Many will recognise it from Fallout New Vegas. Obviously just a way to get a lawman painted up for tribemeet while shoe horning it into a comp.

That is just the best way to do comps.

I don't think I will get an entry done this time around (we bought a new allotment so there is a ton of work to do before winter). That's a sad thought to me. But if I do the song will be Fireflies by Owl City and the mini will be a thundercube contender in a flamboyant dancing pose. Most likely with a display with spotlights centred on him.
