Yakcomp Brainstorming Thread

“Converts Need Not Apply.” Create a group of characters that are stock models. No conversions, green stuff for fillers only. You may, however, go nuts on the bases. Models with tabs may have the tabs removed.

Something created from a cheap dinosaur toy. Share a picture of the original model and what you turn it into. A hideous monster? Mutant creature? A mount for something else? No specified genre, only requirement being it started as a cheap-o plastic dinosaur toy.

(I mean... I have enough projects... just asking for other yaks)

Every Necromunda model is a non-Necromunda model

Uno Reverse card time!! 🔄

Take an official Necromunda miniature (any era) and convert it into a miniature for another game/setting.

Bonus points for getting it as far away from the 40k setting or GW games as possible.

I’m waiting for my little girl to lose interest in her dinos. I’m eyeing them up for giant squigs.

Strange Processions
Models that feel like they belong to a travelling band, wandering group, ceremonial entourage or unusual company on the move. Think escorts, pilgrims, caravans, troupes, retinues, bearers, or any model or models whose purpose suggests a journey or ritual in motion. Lone wanderers fit if they give the sense of being part of something larger.

Mask & Mystery
Anything that hides the face, identity or purpose of the model. Masks, helmets, veils, hoods or anything else that conceals expression or intent. The underlying idea is secrecy, enigma, or ritual identity. Whether subtle or theatrical, the figure feels defined by what it choose not to reveal.

Hallowed & Haunted
Models that havea sense of the sacred, the cursed, or uncanny. This can lean holy or profane, ghostly or consecrated - anything touched by forces beyond the mundane. The emphasis is atmosphere: a figure that feels blessed, doomed, haunted, or otherwise marked by the unseen.

Tools of the Trade
focus on the specialised roles individuals fulfil: artisans, technicians, medics, handlers, operatives - any character defined by their craft, kit, or occupation. The model should clearly embody what they do, whether through equipment, bearing, or purpose.

Relics & Oddities
A character built around a notable object be it ancient, sacred, experimental, macabre, or simply strange. The figure and the item relate meaningfully. Think guardians, wielders, collectors, researchers, or those transformed by what they carry. The artefact is the star, the model its storyteller.

The Corrupted & The Blessed
Models marked by transformation, whether divine, infernal, miraculous, or monstrous. This theme welcomes the extremes of elevation and degradation, purity and taint. Subtle changes or dramatic mutations both fit, as long as the model feels touched by forces beyond their control

From box to Tabletop
Paint one or more models taken directly from a board game - any setting, any style. The aim is simply to bring a game piece or pieces to life with colour, character, or creativity. The theme is all about celebrating neglected plastic in a box and turning it into something tabletop-ready.

Followers & Familiars
A character paired with a companion of some kind: creature, construct, spirit, pet, or attendant. The duo should feel connected in role or personality. Whether supportive, symbiotic, or decorative, the relationship is the heart of the piece.

Hobby Butterfly Monday
(This one is based on a cool game the Tribemeet committee seem to play regularly)

Pick a game you've never played but really fancy trying. Make a model / unit / army for it. Convince at least one other person to do the same. Never speak of it ever again.

Surely a real hobby butterfly would be someone who starts, but doesn't finish, three separate entries in the course of the competition window...

A second-in-command or enforcer. Either the hand behind the throne or the mailed fist of the "warband" leader. Someone who may not be as interesting as the leader, but is an invaluable part of the gang.
