Yakcomp Brainstorming Thread

Diorama
Create a multimodel narrative diorama on a purpose built scenic base. The narrative could be a duel, a meeting, execution, march, performance, a full on firefight or skirmish, or any number of other stories - the important thing is the models are selected and placed in their environment to tell that (nb: putting removable gaming figures onto a display base doesn't qualify).

Because of the complexity of this one, it could potentially be a double competition - month 1 build & convert the scenic base and models, month 2 paint and finish.

Book Nook
Make a book nook display for your wargame of choice. Models in the booknook (if any - it might be purely scenic) can be gaming models placed in it for display purposes, or fully integrated permanent fixtures. You don't need to paint and finish any removable models - the competition is the booknook itself. So, it's perfectly valid to build a booknook for your existing gang/warband/whatever.

Make sure you enter photographs of the booknook without any such removable pre-existing models, of course.

I have long thought a book nook would work incredibly well for Necromunda as it would be perfect for the verticality and cramped environment of the underhive - but I'm sure it could be made to work for most games.

Like the "Diorama" idea, this could also potentially be set up as a double comp - build then finish. We could also specify dimensions to have all builders working from a common baseline.

Paint a miniature from HeroQuest.

You’ve had the box for around 35 years. C’mon. Get painting!!
  • Also allowable is fixing an older paintjob on your HeroQuest minis. Perhaps you foolishly used enamels >30 years ago and want to rectify that…
*For those of you that haven’t - a new version is currently available to buy. No slacking.

Nightmare Fuel.

Take one of your gangs/forces and create something that would give them nightmares if they ran into it. Psychic Delaque gang? Make a Sister of Silence or Inquisitor. Vampire Counts warband? Make a Paladin. Warband of Gork? Make a warboss of Mork. Maybe your Escher gang tried to make a Death Maiden from a ganger who was too far gone, and now she's a murder machine with no allegiance. Murder Cyborgs and Things from the Sump would also fit in.

Born for the wrong job...

Make an atypical model for your gang or warband;
-a sniper or Spyker goliath, a van saar brawler, a macho delaque, an intellectual servitor ogryn, a well groomed cawdor, an enforcer nurse, ...
-a zombie duelist, a skaven knight, a pious mutant, ...

(depending on what you pick you could use these as bounty hunters?)

Other 'mundas.
GW games designers have mentioned that they would have liked to release more skirmish games in the vein of Necromunda and Gorkamorka to flesh out other settings and factions. Design a model (or models) to pitch your idea for a skirmish setting.

These entries will then be sent back in time to the GW design team in the 90s (once I've figured out time travel).

WTF hobbysupplies:

present your most offskelter hobby supplies;
-makeup sponges, shells, toys, dirt, small branches, your wife's nailsupplies, small bits of mouse bones, your offsprings school projects, small screws from your work pc, ...

"WTF did just happened here?!?"

Create a scene that would create this exact response, whatever it might be, sky is the limit.

Perhaps it is an oversized Old Terra Furby toy going berserk, or unknown alien species getting captured and drawing attention.

Gullivers Travels.

Take a full size real-world something and insert it into the system of your choice. Or take a 28mm model and insert it into an epic scale scene (Lilliput). Or trap your 28mm model in the land of giants (Brobdingnag).
