Yakcomp Brainstorming Thread

proposed themes:

@Punktaku : make a dice rolling tower disguised as scenery for the game system of your choice

@Stoof :
“Pop, pop, pop music"
Make a model inspired by music - it could be the physical embodiment of some lyrics, the band itself touring grungy underhive bars, or a lone minstrel trying to convince a party that "combat flute" is a valid and useful skill set to take dungeon crawling.

@Ben_S :
Size doesn't matter.
Make something for any of our usual games (Necromunda, Mordheim, etc) that's either smaller or larger than usual for what it is.

@SuboptimusPrime : Beastmaster - Pets. A luxury to some, a weapon to others. Build and paint a warrior with a faithful fuzzy/scaly/silvery companion.

@Sump Duck :
"Stranger than Fiction"

Build and paint something inspired by a work of fiction. A figure inspired by a fictional character, some terrain inspired by a fictional world or place, a diorama inspired by your favourite fictional moment, the whole of literature and cinema is at your finger tips.

One of these will be used for YakComp 41 (subject to a vote), but I thought it worth recording the other ideas here.

"Have you seen him? He's weird!" ...scary, and probably eats babies, too! Josie said he has a tentacle instead of... and how does she know?

Build and paint something, that is only partially human. Mutant, cyborg, abhuman, alien hybrid, and maybe just disfigured, or particulary ugly person.
(Can be applied to women too.)

Checkpoint: build a check point of some type, like something between two rival territories. This can be between House Zones manned by gangers, between Hive Zones manned by enforcers, an entry port between the hive and the ash wastes, or maybe you’re uphive and it’s a star port! Weigh stations, toll bridges, Troll bridges (for Mordheim, of course), are also all possibilities. Even a gun check at the local watering hole.

Oh! I saw this on one of the Facebook forums.

One Piece: using only a single item, convert it into something for the game of your choice. Use all of the item in your build. You may cut up the item’s parts in any way you need, so it doesn’t have to remain “as is” at all.

The FB poster had made a robot out of a lighter.

'Any resemblance to real persons...'

Make a model for one of our regular games inspired by or based on someone real (from tv, film, sport, music, etc). They should be famous enough that their image can be found online (not, for example, 'based on my cousin Joe').

Homage (or: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery)
Recreate the work of another tribe member. It can be either a faithful copy or merely 'heavily inspired' by the source, but the inspiration should be obvious to anyone familiar with the original.

"WHERE IS IT!?"
A model or two in a small scene , perhaps a debt collectors, maybe an enforcer breaking heads in a drinking hole, maybe a hapless escher who has lost her keys to her cutter, could be a cyber mastiff and it's orlok owner in a rare moment of happiness in the underhive, basically go off on one with the headline...frakk it, how about a rogue doc who's lost his watch in a patient or a corpse grinder tormenting a dismembered victim

assorted leftovers from my brainstorming...

Badlands Racer
Build a race car/vehicle entry for the Scrap Drive 1000, Hive Primus's premier race series. Numbers, sponsors and racin' stickers encouraged!

Space Trolls!
Most fantasy races got carried over... except the venerable Troll! Make a Space Troll suitable for the sci-fi setting...

The Natives are getting restless...
Build up a new member of the Ratskins or Diggas...

Fortune Teller
A mystic for hire? Palm Reading tent? Coin operated psychic? Build something to predict the future in the Underhive...

Hab Block
People have to live somewhere... Build 'em a suitably underhive place...

One Shot One Kill
Build a sniper of any sorts...

Space giants and space dragons would be cool too, but it kind of feels natural that the big classical monsters got left out. But giants, dragons and bears are the things I really wished were included some how.

But I agree that fantasy trolls feel like they should be there but aren't. Perhaps justified as a complex form of squig since 40k tries to give a quasi-realistic justification for stuff.

Ah fiddle sticks! Now I feel inspired by a new project I didn't really need
