Yakday Peterborough 2017

After spending a day trawling through beardlegends posts and spending a day in contemplation, here are my thoughts.....
1. Beardlegend is absolutely legend! I soo love his energy and excitement and motivation for his project! He was so cavalier about it all, like 'once more into the breach men!' Love it!
I still didn't get why it didn't work tho? He seemed to have everything sussed, I loved that he planned it to be in a warehouse (so necro!), he had organised lifts, estimated prices, he even was willing to cook bacon butties for everyone! But it just seemed to stop.....?
If you read this beard I'd so much like for you to be on board and have some input! :)

2. We should organise it around a set date and so any variables are to be adjusted to fit the date. What I mean is, like Christmas or Easter (I'm not intentionally comparing it to them but it's kinda cool tho) if the date falls on funny days then bank holidays get moved around to suit the main date and not the other way round. I.e. If the date we go for is a week day then the event will be held on the closest weekend. Also it means that we can plan many years ahead and plan for more elaborate events (like maybe every forth year we have the event in America!?) or that maybe that it could be hosted by different groups of yakkers! E.g. Year 1 London, y2 Midlands, y3 North, y4 Scotland, y5 somewhere that isn't uk! .? This would help spread the cost between all members and give plenty of time to save (I.m.o).

The dates I think we need to decide between, and I will need everyone's help and input for this, would be between a) the day yaktribe was created. B) the first post sent on yaktribe c) malo's birthday (either real life or yak birthday) or d) something else that I totally havnt thought of yet?

3. Although there is no harm in asking GW to having the event in gwHQ (potentially), I don't think it would be right. Firstly if they think there would be money in it they would definately sharpen their claws and go for the kill. Now don't get me wrong, I love the product, but even in the golden age that I loved, GW had a cut throat business sense that always overrides any social aspect to the hobby, and I think if they aren't already infiltrating the site, by the time the new stuff comes out they will practically copying and pasting inspiration and ideas from here and never putting anything back! And I don't mean to sound bitter but that isn't what I would want for the tribe! I love all the quirkiness and humour and all round comraderie, I'd hate to think we were limited by what models we can use or what scenarios are allowed....but I digress.... :D

For this event I feel that we should host it at a hotel with a conference room somewhere near a main road (highway/autobahn). That way it'll be easy to get to, there will be ample rooms for people to stay for however long they may wish (without interrupting anyone else's plans), usually places like that have free hot drinks .... And an alcohol license (actually that will be mandatory in selection) it'll have security (as in non yak member staff to arbitrate any unforseen occurrences, and secure storage in the rooms, and presumably we'll be able to lock the conference room door with everything left overnight) and if anyone wanted to join in or drop out last minute, it would be totally down to hotel rooms and not cause any agro between members, although I totally wouldn't have any problems if members just wanted to show up on either day and go home on the evenings.

4. Overall I don't want this to be a sterile, play as many games as you can in order to win, tournament. (Although if you do manage to play tuns of games and eventually win that is also cool :p )
I just want it to be more of a meet up of great and talented minds, celebrating the one true game of games, having great beers and even greater laughs, and for everyone there to feel they are part of a much greater entity that not one of us alone could ever hope to become.......
And did I mention I'll also be there! :p:D

I think that's it for now, I'm certain iv forgot some things, let me know what you think?

I love the idea of having it at a hotel with a conference room, simply because we would not be limited by the 10 AM - 6 PM opening hours of Warhammer World. If I am traveling over from Ireland for a social weekend of Necromunda, it would prefer it to be for more than 8 hours of gaming time per day.

Liking the direction this seems to be going in, hotel with a conference room is a fitting place to host. If we picked a weekend in the low season, then you'd be able to negotiate a discount for a large block booking of rooms.

I guess next stage would be to get a rough idea of the number of people that would be up for this, and to to that an actual town/city to host the original would need to be determined so everyone can make an informed decision...

A town/city near an airport, preferably. Just in case any overseas members want to attend.

If we get a rough idea of which UK mainland dwellers are going to attend, we should be able to work out a fair location for them. Then we can decide on an optimum date, convenient for the largest number of attendees, and look into hotels to make plans around.

Is anyone else getting excited?

Flexing your enforcer muscles - awesome!

I imagine a simple area of the UK would be a good place to start, so that initial numbers can be gathered. Then once that is decided, a town/city with good transport links can be determined.

North, South, East, West, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland?

I realise that this is developing quite fast so we happy to wait on input from some other people.

Okay, Bit busy at lunch but will put the poll up this afternoon with those areas if no-one has any objection/alternative suggestions.
