Yakhammer 40k AKA Yakhammer in SPAAACE!! AKA SUMPHAMMER!! (2nd Edition Discussion)

It’s written Yakhammer 40k 😋

Although born in the sump, I feel that it should be more of a celebration of a better time rather than a middle finger to the new!

I will be playing the Imperial Guard of the 48th Krablokistan and will be moving my guard thread here (40k forum). I will be adding ‘Yakhammer 40k’ to the title, and I look forward to seeing other yaks newly purposed 2nd ed grand armies!

if there’s enough of us, then we should definately try to set up a 2nd Ed weekender!

My gang have been planning a return to 2nd Ed after lockdown, glad to see some others interested I was sorting through my 2nd Ed box and Dark Millennium only yesterday!

We all love the 40k universe but not the direction of new editions so we thought we’d give 2nd Ed a go since we all love necro and GoMo.

I just need to pick and army now, I was considering recreating my Space Marine army from when I was 12 but can’t stand painting the buggers (I didn’t bother back then!). Maybe Orks, or Tyranids. Or use my Warzone Bauhaus army as a counts as Imperial Guard.

Reading the Codex Imperialis was a blast, that’s when 40k lore started and stopped in my head.

This thread will be fun.

Interesting! I have the core 2nd ed books & the IG Codex* but I didn't actually do much 2nd before 3rd came in. Colour me intrigued! Still got plenty of army - after all, they've been slugging it out RT-Stylee for a bit now.

*I've been hunting this at my parents' house on and off for about a year now with no luck. I am failry certain I never got rid of it, but can't for the life of me find it.

I’m gonna have to look into this 2nd Edition, as I always assumed that 2nd Edition included the red 40k Companion snd Freebooterz and stuff. Then I found out they were considered first edition...

Some almost certainly, probably best not to focus too much on that though until we have gone through what's already there.

Warboss is in! I’m getting my 2nd Ed Orks stripped, fixed up and primed. Hopefully painted too, so all opportunities to use them will be good.

Eventually I’d like to get a few old armies fixed up.

So what’s the plan here? Get a few games going using existing books?
Creating a Yakhammer 40k Community Edition?

What about the enormous amounts of cards used under 2nd Ed? YakTribe hosted versions?

Wargear, Vehicle, psychic powers, warp deck etc.

Classic templates! Three types of flamer!!!

That sort of thing.

Hell Yeah!!
All the wargear cards condensed into a single page will be glorious!
I hadn’t even thought of the ‘new’ races!
This is very exciting!

@MusingWarboss
Sounds like a plan. Everyone get a few games in or get a good refresher of the rules and then group consensus / punch list of items to update / address.

There are print on demand card companies we could even put together a Yak Edition for wargear cards made to order. I need to dig up the digital copies I have buried on my work server. Damn COVID!

Make it a wargear list and I'm in.

See fantasy 4th edition Arcane Magic supplement for example. They basically took all of the magic item and spell cards from all the boxed sets and army books and just put them in a single book. Best idea since cards were invented.

I remembered that the 2nd edition Chaos Codex had supplementary army lists for cults and daemon worlds. The cult one is terribly disappointing, but the daemon world one looks like I could field a chunk of my WFB chaos army if I wanted to. Not sure whether chaos warriors with hand weapons and primitive shields would be at all competitive, but I could do it...

You knew what I meant! 😄
