I'm really torn on this one. I want to take part but I'm not sure how many models I would be able to get done in the time.
Is the comp making a start on a gang? Or does it have to be minimum legal size?
For ex, I was thinking of doing an enforcer patrol, but the minimum field-able size is 5 man. There is no way I will finish 5 in the time as I have other modelling/painting commitments/commissions and I have quite a bit of sculpting in mind for my entry.
I may be able to manage 2-3 enforcers. Would that be enough to be considered "making a start" or should I have a re-think?

I have some other ideas as well.

@TakUnderhand how painted are they? From that pic it looks like they've more than just an undercoat on them.

@GrimDork its a little of both, start a new gang but it has to be at least the minimum amount to field - so yeah, some require 5 (as you have found) if you had the time, you are very welcome to build an entire gang - this is allowed.

@djmothra - Thanks for the clarification. So, I may have to shelve the enforcers for the comp.
Or I could upload my rules variant for enforcers to the vault which allows min squad size 3 ;)

After looking through the vault other beardy ideas I had:
1, make an ork mob for gorkamorka, base it with necro bases = Orks in the underhive!
2, Paint my Eldar commission models (which I should be working on anyway instead of comps on Yaktribe), base them with necro bases = Eldar in the underhive!

Note: I won't be doing either of these.

@GrimDork, I was going to suggest that you could always write up your own rules reducing the number of minis required. ;)

For my own entry, I'm leaning towards a Genestealer Cult, but right now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do for the Leader, if anyone has suggestions would be appreciated - full ramblings and pics of minis I'm thinking of using over in my plog. :-D

Yep grey area but we've had people before who have sculpted entire models or built something entirely from scratch as their entry in the time allowed. As always there's an element of yakkers honour to this so i just suggested Tak spent a few days looking at them for the same period it took for him to make them before using them. Although I'm happy to refer this to @djmothra for a final decision.
Oh, I get that and I'm always excited to see items that are fully from scratch (and there have been some awesome ones, not the least by @TakUnderhand). I just think it's unfair to suggest that someone who can, has to or even should start from scratch. I think that it would give someone like me, who isn't inclined to scratch build and has to use other people's sculpts, an advantage just due to lack of skill and/or inclination. However, if there is paint on them as was questioned, that isn't grey anymore.

Kinda difficult one. I'm not suggesting we should all mix and make our own paints, make our own glue etc but and I get what your saying about people using pre made models. However I don't personally think it's fair if you use anything that you personally have made or done work to, prior to the comp starting. I've sunk a lot of hours into a comp entry in the past.

My solution is that you know if it's fair or not yourself and then should use it only if you think it's fair......

Guys - I'm going to re-cast.
Mainly because these are based and undercoated (badly undercoated, mind you :)).

Thanks for the support though - I think that there is a slight inconsistency in the rules - If I'd bought those cast off a friend, then it would have been within the rules.

But basing and undercoating is a no-no, I realise that in hindsight. Sorry to have been pushy.

So, think I'm gonna have to sit this comp out. Just won't have the time to do it justice, October's going to be a busy month with real life stuff/work and I have a big back log of commission stuff that I should be getting on with. That is going to have to take priority on my hobby time.
Sad, but I'm sure my ideas for enforcers will be realised in the future.

Hopefully I'll join in for comp 11.
All the best with your entries, I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Oh I don't bloody know there's people on here like flamekebab and madrobot who run their own model companies, the above would mean they couldn't use any of their own premade parts but somebody else could.....
This is what I was trying to get at. I think if you merely have a rule that says the most you can start with is unpainted casts, everyone is covered. I get no advantage and the scratch builders still get all the respect they deserve.

I'm going to say yes to arbites - how about ones that have gone vigilante? Not exactly sure how you do that in the imperium, maybe hunting corrupt guilders?
