Hello there,

Looking for van Saar players opinion regarding the following starting roster. The opposite gangs are Palanite Enforcers, Ironhead Squat Prospectors, Goliath + one more, unknown yet - that may give you some context. Sure it is quite Las-oriented, but for now there are not really other options available - or am I mistaken?

1. Prime: Plasma Gun + Las Pistol; Mesh; Hip Shooting;
2. Augmek #1: Grav Gun + Las Pistol; Mesh; Fast Shot;
3. Augmek #2: Lasgun; Mesh; Fixer;
4. Tek-hunter Bioteknist: Lasgun; Servo-medicae;
5. Tek-hunter Gunntek: Lasgun;
6. Tek-hunter Augurtek: Lasgun;
7. Juve #1: Lasgun;
8. Juve #2: Lasgun;

I'm not a Van Saar player but haven't you mixed in ganger types from the Hive Secundus campaign? Worth making sure the group you're playing with are okay with that.

You don't have much that is very killy - you're limited really to a plasma gun aren't you? My recollection of the grav gun is that it's better for disruption than actual killing, and the rest of your guns are lasguns. I'd definitely re-jig a bit to try and get some more killing power...

Thanks for swift response :)

To answer your querstions:
1. Having Tek-hunter Specialists is OK
2. We are limited to 2 Special Weapons and 1 Heavy Weapon at the beginning

With that said, I'm struggling to bring more killing power, unless I have 7 gangers. Alternatively I could drop Mesh to get Suppresion Laser.

Hi, just my 2 cents 🙂
  1. A Plasma Gun on the Prime is always good, but I’d lose Hip Shooting on the Prime and give him Munitioneer. As soon as you have the XP, give him Weaponsmith from the Tech skills for a much more reliable fighter. Maybe give him a Hystrar Shield for more survivability.
  2. I love the Grav Gun, but I would save some credits and buy a Las Carbine for the Augmek, and get Gadgeteer when you have the XP for a Rapid Fire (2) Las Carbine.
  3. Lose the second Augmek and get an Archeotek instead. Get Torsonic Cyberteknika (Gamma level) for only 15 credits, and a Spider-Rig, Las Sub-Carbine, and the Gadgeteer skill to get Rapid Fire (2) on the Las Sub-Carbine. He's a beast...
  4. I’d keep the Guntek and buy a Long-Las for a Str. 4 weapon right out of the gate.
  5. Get 2 Gangers instead of Tek-Hunters and give them a Lasgun and a Suppression Laser for some variation.
  6. Keep the Juves, maybe give them Laspistols instead to save a few credits.

All equipped with Mesh Armour.

Thanks Nissefar! Interesting ideas - based on your comment, I indeed prepared quite interesting starting crew:

1. Prime: Plasma Gun + Las Pistol, Mesh; Trick shot;
2. Augmek: Las carbine, Mesh; Fast Shot;
3. Archeotek: Spider-rig + Las Pistol, Mesh, Torsonic (Gamma), Mesh; Fixer;
4. Tek-hunter Gunntek: Long Las;
5. Tek-hunter Bioteknist: Lasgun, Servo-medicae;
6. Tek (Specialist): Lasgun;
7. Juve #1: Lasgun;
8. Juve #2: Lasgun;

Still a lot of Las guns, but a bit different. But I need to think about it as I'm not convinced to the Archeotek - in previous campaign I had one melee fighter in my Orlock gang, and he was not gaining XP that much as the ones carrying guns. But Strength 6, 3inch melee attack is scary as hell, not even mentioning the rule of cool :)

You're welcome – glad you found my comments interesting 🙂

In our current campaign, my Archeotek got the most OOA. But it all depends on the terrain and which scenario is being played. He has access to the Cunning skill tree, so you could give him Infiltrate down the line for some extra sneakiness.

Use the first 5 XP for +1" M, and when you have the credits, buy him a Cyberachnid to protect him from counter-charges with Fearsome.

Good luck 😉

Yep, movement seems to be the first upgrade for almost everyone in that gang, but infiltrate is worth considering. In our current campaign, the most difficult games I had were against Delaque - these sneaky bastards had 4 such gangers and they pretty much owned the board every single time. 12xp seems quite expensive though, that it almost +1M and +1T :)

Cyberachnid is definetely on my list, but if I'm considering this roster, then I think Grav Gun will be my first target, or maybe Grav Cannon /Lascannon ;)

You may compete with other shooty gang in the shooting phase but not in close with your current list. Granted the squats are as slow as you but they punch harder in close. Goliath are slow too but they won't care about your shooting outside of pining. Enforcer are closer to the squats but more mobile in term of profile and more importantly are very flexible thanks to their equipment.

The issue I have with your list is beyond maybe the first two games, you will fold fast. You lack bodies, you lack punches and more importantly you lack countermeasures/ counter attack.

You have some of the best pet and brutes.

Necroumunda is like poker you play with your hand but also the hand and mind of your opponent.

Here I don't see you taking into account your opponent.

Sorry to be harsh with you as I don't mean to offend you. It's just I prefer to be honest.
