Necromunda Your Gang & You

Cool thread! This is going to sound weird but theres always been one gang, that i have always loathed. Maybe ptsd from the players that have gravitated to them in my past, maybe just their ruleset...whatever you want to call it.. but its surely not healthy. Other than that gang i would be happy to play any gang as long as i can think up a good backstory for the characters in the gang. Usually that backstory or characters are based from some kind of fiction that has influenced me heavily along the way. The gangs i have played in the past always tend to have a hth focus. (Escher, goliath, Scavvies, Pitslaves) I like to think of it as balancing the force. 😅

Van Saar are somehow the gang everyone hates even though they aren't that dangerous. At least it's been true in my current and past N18 campaigns.

But don't get me wrong, I quietly encourage the other players hating on the Van Saar player and his multi melter, it keeps them too busy to notice that my Delaques have caused the vast majority of deaths and are 200pts of gang rating ahead. This is, after all, the Delaque way. Though they might finally catch on after the recent lascannon incident...

Im still carrying vendettas from the early days mate. Old ed goliaths had embarrasingly bad skill trees in the game whilst the pj beards were rocking arguably the 3 best skill trees and usually started printing money by about mid campaign. Combine that with the "that" guy archetype and there was some serious sumping and ptsd going on. I got no real life experience with the new ones yet really so ill shut my cakehole. (although im secretly happy to hear your giving em a what for) Carry on and ignore this troll. Orange is contagious. 😂

My first (and only) gang was Goliaths. Not because I really like them, but because my brother took the Orlocks from the box back in 1996 or thereabouts. At the time I remember my teenage me was quite frustrated at their crappy skill trees, while my brother got all the really useful skills and repeatedly whooped my ass.

Now though, it's a much different story. Not so much the ass whopping, but how I approach the game. Gone are the days of caring only for the win. Now a glorious defeat is just as good, if not better, because it gives an opportunity for narrative and vendettas.
TOFUUUUU! 😡 (@Cable will understand)

And while the skill tree is still suboptimal, I like to think of it as an extra challenge! Those Goliaths like to boast they are the bestest, but in reality, they are disadvantaged, which makes them all the more appealing. 🤣

I think I'll try Escher next, whenever that may be.

The new goliath absolutely rule what are you talking about!? Both characterful and powerful. (Who ever thought that they could make flexing useful 😜) The difference is blistering imo 😂. Although I agree I think It was less about the ruleset back then and was more about the players that gravitated to it. I also agree age is a factor. I played my first go at the ogryns on friday and was so relaxing, having a drink, laughing, and just moving them around the board casually and carefree. Making characterful decisions rather than tactical ones. So forgiving. Still managed to pummel some minis with their bare fists which was funny as heck. 😂 might have to reconsider my gang choice in the upcoming campaign.

back in the N95 days It was Orlock for me. I quite liked their everyman approach and seemed to be the closest to ordinary humans just trying to get by day to day. Then I moved on to the Ratskins, as I kind of liked the indigenous inhabitants of Necromunda vibe - the local population seeing their world destroyed by the Imperium, and them struggling to survive. I'm hoping they make a reappearance in the new game.
now for the current setting I'm playing Goliath, although I have Enforcers, Escher Orlock and Delaque Gangs as well. I like the new models for them, but I also like the idea of genetically designed, almost abhuman types, turning the tables on their creators and carving out their own niche.

Hated the spyrers though and Van Saar never did it for me.
